Tasks Develop and oversee the implementation of the asset management system, including: the establishment of the Asset Management Unit, and departmental policies and procedures Develop and maintain the strategic and annual asset management plans aligned with the departmental strategy and budget, and in consultation with Public Works where applicable Develop and maintain asset registers, including; acquisitions, maintenance management, transfers and valuations Develop and maintain the lease register

Develop asset needs assessment, acquisition management, operational and disposal plans

Execute and monitor the implementation of the asset acquisition, maintenance and disposal plans Plan and execute the asset verification, investigate and report on variances, make necessary recommendations to resolve discrepancies, and update the asset register Verify the spatial plans to the physical asset and update with changes, for example; renewals and enhancements Develop, implement and manage mechanisms to safeguard assets Prepare a monthly reconciliation with supporting schedules of the asset registers to the relevant accounting records, and resolve uncleared items Prepare a business plan for the life cycle of assets, including; an analysis of pricing options utilising life cycle cost, and recommendations on the most appropriate asset solution Report on asset management

Indicator of Competence An established and effective asset management system that includes; an established and capacitated Asset Management Unit (AMU) with competent officials, and approved and implemented departmental policies and procedures, that are compliant with the applicable legislative framework and requirements

Approved strategic and annual management plans developed and aligned with the departmental strategy and budget and in compliance with relevant framework and guidelines

Current and complete Asset Registers are effectively maintained in compliance with legislative requirements and accounting standards A current and complete Lease Register is effectively maintained in compliance with legislative requirements and accounting standards Approved asset needs assessment, acquisition management, operational and disposal plans developed in alignment with the budget and in compliance with departmental policies and procedures Assets are acquired, maintained and disposed of in accordance with their respective approved plans and departmental policies and procedures

The asset verification performed in accordance with the policy, variances effectively investigated, discrepancies resolved and reported, informed recommendations made, and the asset register accurately updated in accordance with accounting standards Verified and updated spatial plans
