COURSE TITLE : Agricultural Crops Production

NOMINAL DURATION : 616 hours

QUALIFICATION : NC I

COURSE DESCRIPTION :

This course is designed to enhance the knowledge, desirable skills and attitudes of Agricultural Crops Production NC l in accordance with industry standards. It covers basic, common and core competencies in the production of crops such as rice, vegetables, fruits and nuts as well as many others.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS :

Trainees or students wishing to enroll in this course should possess the following requirements.

• Able to read and write;

• With good moral character;

• Ability to communicate, both oral and written

• Physically fit and mentally healthy as certified by a Public Health Officer

LO3. HANDLE MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:

• Waste material and debris produced during irrigation work is stored in a designated area according to workplace procedure/OHS procedure.

Materials, equipment and machinery are handled and transported according to enterprise guidelines.

A clean and safe work site is maintained while undertaking irrigation activities in accordance with OHS procedures.

CONTENTS:

• Proper use/handling of materials and equipment

• Storage practices and principles for materials and equipment

• Waste materials storage and disposition

• Routine maintenance of irrigation and/or drainage systems and components

• Repair, maintenance, and storage of infrastructures, materials, tools and equipment

CONDITIONS:

Trainees/students must be provided with the following:

• Learning elements

• Instruction/service manual

• Materials, tools and equipment (pumps, sprinklers, pipe, drip line, valves, filters, sprays, water reels, etc.)

• Personal protective clothing and equipment

LO4. CLEAN UP ON COMPLETION OF IRRIGATION ACTIVITIES

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA:

• Materials are returned to store or disposed of according to company standard procedures and supervisor’s instructions.

• Tools and equipment are cleaned, maintained and stored according to manufacturers’ specifications and supervisors’ instructions.

• Site is made good according to supervisor’s instructions and good environmental practices

• Work outcomes are reported to the supervisor following established reporting formats.

CONTENTS:

• Procedures for storage of excess materials

• Procedures for disposal of waste materials

• Routine cleaning, maintenance and storage of tools and equipment

• Environmental requirements relative to irrigation

• Report preparation of work outcomes

• Accident/hazard reporting procedures

CONDITIONS:

Trainees/students must be provided with the following:

• Learning elements

• Instruction/service manual
