EasyCBM Benchmark and Instructional Level in CCSS Math

(Update, 1/20/16)

An alternate method for determining instructional level after benchmarking CCSS Math is available.

1. Students identified on the MAP list for Math complete the easyCBM CCSS Math Benchmark at grade level. This establishes the needed level of RTI2 intervention, i.e. Tier 2 or 3.

2. For students identified as Tier 2 or 3, you must identify the instructional level for intervention and CCSS Math progress monitoring, using the chart below. The student’s RIT (Rasch Unit) score is provided on the MAP referral list.

3. Scores in the chart below represent the grade level mean (performance at the 50th percentile) for the identified benchmark period.

4. Compare the student’s RIT score to the listed scores

For example, John completed the easyCBM CCSS Fall benchmark at grade level and obtained a percentile score of 18 indicating a need for Tier II intervention. His Fall MAP RIT score is 180. Based on the table below, his performance is below the mean (50th percentile) for Fall Mean Grade 3 and above the Fall Mean grade 2. This would suggest a 3rd grade instructional level.
