Course & Teacher Policies

Student Homework:

Homework will be assigned at the beginning of each unit. Homework will consist of one vocabulary and one reading based activity for the unit (Achieve 3000). Students will have the entire unit to complete these two homework assignments, and the homework will be due on the date of the exam. Homework assignments will be posted to the board on the first day of the unit and will not be erased until the test date. Students will not have an opportunity to recycle or turn in late homework. Students have an extended amount of time to complete these assignments and therefore are expected to turn them in on time.

Notebooks:

World History class will be centered around the interactive notebook. These will be built using the pronged folders. Students will be expected to keep up with their table of contents each day and to complete all classwork in their notebooks throughout the class period. Every 2 weeks notebooks will be checked for four “random” assignments. The assignments that will be checked (along with the check date) will be listed on the board for the 2 weeks prior to the notebook being checked. No late submissions will be accepted unless students were absent on the date of the notebook check. If students are absent on notebook check day, they are expected to get their notebook checked immediately upon their return.

Proper Heading and Placement:

All assignments must have the students’ LAST NAME, PERIOD, DATE, and ASSIGNMENT NAME. All assignments should be turned in to the correctly labeled classroom bin. If students turn in work to the incorrect bin the assignments will not be graded until, the student locates the assignment then places it into the correct bin. Until then the grade will reflect a zero and the assignment will only be graded after all current assignments have been processed.

Tests:

Students will be given one test every unit. Prior to test day students will be given a study guide and review date unless otherwise stated at the start of the unit. Quizzes will be given throughout the course to check student knowledge and to allow students to review important material. Make- ups will only be given to students who have an excused absence on the date of the test. If students are absent, it is their responsibility to come make up their test on the date that they return to class, and the homework will be due on this date as well. If students do not follow this guideline, they are subject to a grade of zero for the homework and test grade. Students will not be given additional days of preparation time that other students did not have- you must take the test on the date of return.

Projects:

Students will be given various projects during the nine- week period. There will be appropriate time to complete the projects. Some projects will be group and some individual, both will be graded based upon rubrics. Rubrics will always be provided as a guideline for grading at the start of the project. Any group projects will be graded based upon the group effort and all students will receive the same grade. Some groupings will be at teacher discretion while other groupings will be based upon student choice. One student doing more work than other group members will be a behavior that is discouraged; but this is the nature of group work at all levels of education. Learning how to interact and effectively get to the successful completion of the project with various work styles in partners will prepare students for their next steps in education and/or the workplace. Please note that students will have extended amounts of time to complete projects inside or outside of class therefore, late projects will not be accepted.

Late Work (applies to ASSIGNMENTS only)

First nine weeks- 3 class periods

Second nine weeks- 2 class periods

Third nine weeks- one class period

Fourth nine weeks- NO LATE WORK

Make-Up Work Policy

If students are absent from class they should check with a table partner to update their notebooks and find out which handouts were missed. Students should then come to me after class to collect any handouts and complete all assigned work prior to the notebook check.

Progress Reports:

Progress reports will be issued 1 time every nine weeks. If a student is performing below standard the teacher will issue a class progress report, which serves as a scholarship warning and will be sent home for parents to sign.

Submitting Work

Please note that it is your responsibility to staple multi- page paper assignments together. This helps teachers to keep track of your work and to understand which assignments go together.

Papers without a name will be placed back in my collection folders, which stay with me; it is your duty to come and claim papers without your name and to resubmit them for grading. You will have only one chance to resubmit assignments with no name for full credit, after this they will be considered late submissions, which are subject to the late work penalty.

Students who do not put their full heading on papers and whom have the same name as other students will not receive credit. Students must put their LAST NAMES and PERIOD on all papers.

Hall Passes

Students must ask to use the restroom in this class. You must have your planner signed before leaving the room for any reason.

Snacks

No eating, drinking, or chewing gum is permitted in this classroom at any time. Food items should be stored in your book bag or lunch bag and should not be out in view during this class, unless you have a signed note/explanation of a need to snack and drink during class from a doctor. (LANDON IS A PEANUT AWARE CAMPUS)

Extra Credit

Extra credit opportunities will be offered each unit in the form of Anchor Activities. These assignments are open for students to complete after they finish assigned work in class each day. Anchor activities are 1 point each. All students can complete these assignment choices.

Additional extra credit may be offered at the teacher discretion throughout the nine weeks. These extra credit assignments will be awarded a higher amount of points and only students WITHOUT ZEROS will be eligible to complete these assignments.
