The Atlantic region is found on the east coast of Canada. It was the first area of Canada to be explored and settled. The Atlantic Region consists of four provinces; Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.).

New Brunswick and Nova Scotia form part of Canada’s mainland. Newfoundland the Labrador consist of the island and Labrador on the mainland. Price Edward Island is Canada’s only island province. Nova Scotia is a peninsula. A peninsula is an area of land almost completely surrounded by water.

During the winter, the coastal areas of the region are snowy. During the summer, the weather is mild and warm. Newfoundland and Labrador average more than 100 days of fog each year.

Only nine percent of Canada’s people live in this region. The three largest cities in this region are Halifax, Nova Scotia, St. John’s Newfoundland, and Saint John, New Brunswick.
