12:00 P.M. to 3 P.M. Social Events and Pre-Run Rally

Hundreds of riders and run supporters from across the nation and some foreign countries will descend on Indianapolis, Indiana for a rally in support of The American Legacy Scholarship Fund. Rally events will be held on the grounds of spacious American Legion Post #64, 601 Holt Road and will include food, vendors, entertainment and motorcycles of every imaginable (and some unimaginable) design. Get reacquainted with your friends from prior Runs, and meet your new comrades for the 2008 Run to Phoenix. Or, spend time preparing your gear and making final adjustments.

Onsite registration for The American Legion Legacy Run will be available at the rally for $45.00 per person.

3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Legacy Run Rider Meetings and Briefings

Run officials and road captains will provide riders with detailed briefings on the route and events for the 2008 run to Phoenix. These informal but serious sessions will outline how the run is organized and review group riding procedures. It will include details of planned travel on or parallel to Old Hwy 66 on much of the route. Special pointers will also be given to the very scenic trip across Arizona’s Salt River Canyon and weather related challenges.

6 P.M. to 8 P.M. Social Event/Riders meeting

Join National Commander Marty Conaster as he introduces the Legacy Run team and special guests. Watch The American Legion Riders as they kick off the 2008 run to Phoenix with a “Legacy Salute”. You won’t just hear talk about supporting our troops at this emotion filled event. You will witness action.

After dinner, hosted by Post 64, The Wayne Post 64 Commander, and the Indiana American Legion Riders, will introduce the National Commander and featured speakers. There will also be a meeting for all the participating Riders immediately following the guest speakers.

The Ride

A majority of this year’s run will be on Route 66. We will travel both I-44 and I-40, portions of which have been designated parts of the historic route. On occasion we will venture from the highway to ride some of the older original portions of the mother road. Most nights we will stay on or very close to the original road. We pick up Route 66 in Missouri and follow it to Holbrook, AZ, where we will turn left for a scenic run across the Salt River Canyon and into the Phoenix area.
