RE: LOADNG OF THE FIRST CONSIGNMENT OF SHIPMENT OF IRON ORE DUMP MATERIAL FROM NGWENYA MINE AT THE HARBOUR IN MAPUTO, REPUBLIC OF MOZAMBIQUE ON THURSDAY 22ND DECEMBER, 2011.

1. The Honourable Minister for Natural Resources and Energy was cordially invited by Salgaocar Swaziland (Pty) Limited to participate in witnessing the loading of the first shipment of iron ore dump consignment being mined at Ngwenya Mine; from the Maputo harbour in the Republic of Mozambique on Thursday, 22nd December, 2011.

2. The Honourable Minister; Her Royal Highness; Princess Tsandzile was accompanied by the Government Mining Engineer; Mr Sibusiso S. Ntshalintshali to this historic event. The event took place on Berth No. 5 at the Maputo Port, Mozambique.

3. The Honourable Minister was accompanied by The Honourable Minister for Public Works and Transport, Ntuthuko Dlamini. Amongst others, in attendance there was the Chief Executive Officer of Salgaocar Swaziland (Pty) Ltd, Mr. Sivarama Prasad Petla and the Chief Executive Officer of Salgaocar Mozambique Lta, Mr. Ronald Herman.

4. The ceremony’s highlight was the cutting of the ribbon by the Honourable Minister; Her Royal Highness Princess Tsandzile and the Co-ordinator of the Development Corridor from the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Mozambique.

5. The process involves mining and hauling into a buffer stockpile on the mine. The material is then loaded from the stockpile into 33 tonnes horse and trailer trucks. The trucks road haul the material through Mhlumeni border post to tip into a mini stockpile near the Maputo harbour. A ship is ordered is ordered from shipping companies to convey a consignement of over 50 thousand tonnes. When such a ship is available the material is then loaded from the mini-stocpile using a front end loader into 30 tonnes skips. The skips are shuttled between the mini-stockpile and the shipyard where a ship docks at the harbour. The loaded skips are then hoisted up from the skips to be offloaded into the ship. The empty skips are then hoisted down onto the shuttle trucks and driven back to the mini-stockpile area to resume the cycle.

6. The ship has a capacity of 50 thousand tonnes. The loading was scheduled to be done over three days for twenty four hours per day, weather permitting. The ship was scheduled to leave the Maputo harbour and sail for China with an expected shipping time of three weeks.

7. The Minstry is grateful to Government to allow the participation of the historical event and to Salgaocar Swaziland (Pty) limited for funding the trip.
