Glenn Edward ALEXANDER-DOD: 2007 June 9th from complications of Lung and Throat Cancer. Glenn was Dennis Chick's (70) Best Man at his wedding. Glenn, 70 Dennis and Brian Swart are the central students in the terrific picture in the front of the first yearbook from Parkdale, Class of 1970. Glenn is the black haired person, Brian is the redhead, the other one is Dennis, right in the middle of the picture.

Linda Sue AMUNDSON-DOD: 2017 Linda Sue Stone, 64, of Emmitsburg, Maryland, died suddenly of a heart attack on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. Born November 28, 1952 in Washington, D.C. she was the daughter of Amy Boyds of Nevada and the late Rolad Amundson. She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, David R. Stone, Sr. (Parkdale Class of 70), to whom she was married on December 3, 1970. Linda was a dairy farmer and enjoyed working on the family dairy farm outside Emmitsburg along with her husband. She was an avid bowler and participated in several weekly leagues at Thunderhead bowl in Taneytown. She was a Baltimore Orioles fan. Surviving in addition to her mother and husband are sons, David R. Stone, Jr. and wife Shari of Carroll Valley, PA, and Robert N. Stone and 70 wife Tracy of Inwood, W.Va.; grandchildren, David Stone, III, Alex, Andrew, Kyle, Kaylee, Brittany and Abigale Stone, Amanda Mitchum; great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Sophia and Anthony; brother, Jon Amundson; step-sisters, Paula Roberts and Chrissy Sharpe; step-brother, David Wayne Amundson; sister-in-law, Shirley Amundson; and special devoted friends, Mary Rose Keffer, Judy Fuller and Brenda Powell. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at the MYERSDURBORAW FUNERAL HOME, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown with funeral celebrant John Morrill officiating. Burial will follow in the Keysville Union Cemetery in Keymar. The family will receive friends 1-3 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Louis Allen ASHCRAFT-DOD: 2014 October 23rd. Louis Allen Ashcraft, 62, of

Milford, passed away Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014. Louis `Tex' was born in Quanah, 70 Texas, Feb. 23, 1952. Louis was a retired engineer with Verizon (Bell Atlantic)

Telephone Company of Washington, D.C. After his graduation from Parkdale High

School in Riverdale, Md. he was accepted at the Coast Guard Academy in New

London, Conn., but attended only a short time as he had received a back injury from falling down two flights of metal stairs while on a Coast Guard vessel. He then went to work for the Library of Congress before he started his 30-year career at Verizon. Louis was very active in the Sussex County community with the local Habitat for Humanity chapter by providing his service with his John Deere tractor. He also helped at the Soup Kitchen of the Presbyterian Church in Lewes. His main job there was to pick up leftover bread from the local bakery, as well as help serve the food and afterwards help with the clean-up. He was an active member of the Milford Senior Center where he enjoyed playing a good game of pinnacle. Louis was the son of the late James Eldon Ashcraft and Lidia Anna Pattai. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his younger brother: Richard Ashcraft. Louis is survived by his daughter: Jennifer Ashcraft and his two grandchildren: Jaelyn Ashcraft and Jeffrey Love III of Woodbridge, Va. He also leaves behind his siblings: Laura West of Saint Marys, Ga., Maria Mayhew of Lusby, Md. and Joseph Ashcraft of Potomac, Md. He had a large family of seven nieces: Bryanne, Joy, Amanda, Kelley, Leah and twins Jessica and Christina; four nephews: Rob, Tony, Michael and Joseph. He also is survived by his seven great-nieces; Chelsea, Hayley, Cameron, Kayla, Camille, Alexandra and Adriana; five great-nephews; Tommy, twins Grant and Trent, Joseph and Mathew. He is survived by lots of cousins, second and third cousins in Connecticut, Illinois, Florida, Arizona, Colorado, Texas and in Trieste, Italy, where his mother, Lidia, was born in 1931. He is survived by his aunts: Joy, Dixie, Vicki and Kathy from Nevada, Oklahoma, Colorado and Texas; his uncle: Johnny Ashcraft of Quanah, Texas; his stepfather: Albino Coslevas of Trieste, Italy. He leaves behind his fianc? and love of his life: Annamarie Fosmire of Georgetown; and his dedicated close friends and neighbors: Bill and Linda Malayter of Milford. James Edward BOUCHER-DOD: 2002 Died May 2nd of a brain seizure. He is survived by his sister Gerry Boucher (71), five other sisters and a brother. . In addition 70 to his seven siblings, Jim is survived by his mother and thirteen nieces and nephews. Jim was employed by the Department of Commerce for nineteen years and was a volunteer firefighter for and lifetime member of West Lanham Hills Fire Department.

Michael Edward BURNS-DOD: 2015 March 19th. It is with deep regret that I announce the suddendeath of my brother, Michael Edward Burns, of Frederick, MD. Michael died of a heart attack at the age of 63. He was a proud veteran of the US 70 Army, where he served as a 91 Charlie (LVN) stationed at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. A 1970 graduate of Parkdale Senior High School, he later earned a degree in chemistry from the Univ of Maryland. He worked for many years as an Environmental Safety specialist at the National Assoc of Railroads and Ft Dietrick, MD. There will be a graveside ceremony at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, at

1030, Wed, 8 April 2015. May he rest in peace with the thanks of a grateful nation for his service.

Stephen Benjamin CARZON-DOD: 2016 June 16th, of cancer with his daughter and son by his side. Son of Harry F. Carzon and Jean B. Carzon, of Riverdale, Maryland (both deceased), Crofton, Maryland; and Little River, South Carolina. Stephen was a Cable Technician for the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company, a former steward for CWA Local 2108, and a long-time resident of Riverdale, MD; Bowie, MD; Waldorf, MD; Calabash, NC; and Lusby, MD during his life. He leaves daughter Nichole Carzon and son Eric Carzon; grandchildren Angelica, Adrianna, Jonah, and Harold; first wife Janine Secrist; his beloved Great Dane Misha; and many beloved family and friends. He gave us the gift of music, good humor and a quick wit, helpfulness, hard work, handiness, and kindness. He had a keen memory for a good 70 song, he was handy with many a tool, mechanically inventive, and artistic in his own fashion, particularly with antiques. He hand-crafted several wonderful pieces of telephone memorabilia. He left this world happier, more musical, and in better mechanical condition than he found it. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 25th, 2016 at 1 p.m. at the Lee Funeral Home in Calvert, Maryland (8200 Jennifer Lane; Owings, Maryland, 20736). The Gathering will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., with a ceremony in the same location at 3 p.m. Flowers are accepted gratefully, as are donations in Steve's honor. Steve's favorite charities included the Vietnam Veterans of America, the American Red Cross (Dad was a former member of the Gallon Club), and any charity that helps dogs.

John Wilson CASHWELL-DOD: 2012 John Wilson Cashwell, 60, of Industry, passed away Friday, May 25, 2012 with his son, family, and friends at his side. He died when a cerebral aneurysm ruptured. Born January 3, 1952, in Cheverly, MD, John was the son of Virgil and Marjorie Cashwell. He graduated from Parkdale High School, MD, in 1970 but had been a resident of Industry for 23 years where he worked as a service 70 agent for National Alamo Rental Car at Pittsburgh Airport. John's passions included golf, camping, the Washington Redskins, and spending time with friends and family. Surviving are a son, Gregory Cashwell, Industry; his former wife, Karen Cashwell, Industry; two sisters, Janie (Michael) Marrie, MD, and Kathleen (Terry) Ruby, MD; three nieces Lisa Russo, Sara Marrie, and Teresa Ruby; two nephews, Kevin Marrie and Alex Ruby, and many friends.

Albert Marshall CLAGGETT IV-DOD: 1978 June 1st in the line of duty as a Prince Georges County Police Officer. He died during the attempted escape of Terrence 70 Johnson within the Hyattsville police station. His death was instrumental in the guidelines now used about gun lock up while in the facility. Both he and Officer Swart were shot when Johnson grabbed a gun while being uncuffed from a bench, for moving to a cell. Both belonged to the Riverdale Heights Volunteer Fire Department.

The Obituary: Police Officer Claggett was born on March 1, 1952, in Prince George's County. He was raised in New Carrollton and graduated from Parkdale High School. He joined the Prince George's County Police Department as a cadet on June 19, 1972. He started the police academy shortly thereafter, following in the footsteps of his father, retired Prince George's County Police Lieutenant Albert M. Claggett, III. After graduating on December 3, 1972, Police Officer Claggett was assigned to the Seat Pleasant station. He was transferred to the Hyattsville station in July of 1975. On June 26, 1978, at about 1:30 am, Police Officer Claggett and Police Officer James B. Swart stopped a car on Annapolis Road in Bladensburg. The car matched the suspect description in the theft of laundry room coin boxes from a nearby apartment complex. The two occupants were arrested and taken to the Hyattsville station. While processing the suspects, one of the men suddenly ripped Officer Claggett's weapon from his holster and opened fire. Officer Claggett was seriously wounded and was rushed to the hospital. Sadly, he died of his injuries a short time later. Police Officer Swart was also shot as he tried to assist Officer Claggett. Tragically, Police Officer Swart also succumbed to his injuries. Police Officer Claggett served the Prince George's County Police Department for six years and was the 10th member of this agency to make the ultimate sacrifice. He was the 18th law enforcement officer to give his life in service to this profession within Prince George's County. At the time of his death, Police Officer Claggett was 26 years old and survived by his wife and two sons.

Paul Scott DAVIS-DOD: 2011 November 15, after many trying years of heart problems and poor health. He resided in Atlanta for 34 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo Rex Davis and Dorothy Jane McIntyre Davis. Born in Washington DC, he matriculated at the prestigious Maryland Institute College of Art, 70 and worked for over 30 years designing and implementing complex communication networks for Byers Engineering, ultimately retiring from Bell South in 2003. He was a gentle soul, a gifted artist, a lover of nature, especially animals, and a fine cook. He is survived by his older brother Gary S. Davis of Albuquerque, NM, and a circle of close friends who will miss his wry humor and warm presence.

Glenn Michael DROHAN-DOD: 2011 May 26th of Cancer. A longtime North Adams,

MA local journalist and North Adams Transcript Editor-in-Chief died May 26, 2011,

A reporter and editor with more than 26 years of experience, Drohan first joined the

Transcript as a correspondent in 1985, covering the town of Florida, before moving to

the Williamstown beat full time. He also spent 12 years with The Berkshire Eagle,

working as a copy editor, reporter or bureau chief from 1988-96 and 1999-2003 . He was managing editor of the Brattleboro (Vt.) Reformer from 1996 to 1998, then served

as the Transcript's editor from 1998 to 1999. He was editor of The Advocate in North

County from 2003 to 2006 before he rejoined the Transcript as editor in 2006. Drohan

is survived by longtime partner Marsha Landry, with whom he lived in North Adams.

He also leaves behind his daughter, Mollie, 27, and a brother, Kerry (72), who recently

retired from The Boston Globe.

Arthur Courtney FRIDLEY-DOD: 2013 May 7th. Arthur Fridley, D.D.S., 60, a 10year resident of Shady Side and previously of New Carrollton, died May 7 of a heart attack in Annapolis. Born January 4, 1953 in Washington, D.C., to the late Courtney and Mary Frances Fridley, he received his bachelor of science degree in 1975 from the University of Maryland and his doctor of dental surgery degree in 1979 from Howard 70 University Dental School. Dr. Fridley was a general dentist in Temple Hills. He was past president of the Maryland State Dental Association, and the Southern Maryland Dental Society; member of the American College of Dentists, and the International College of Dentists. Dr. Fridley was also a 4th degree knight with the Knights of Columbus and a parishioner at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in West River. He enjoyed college football and volunteering for Mission of Mercy in Maryland. Dr. Fridley is survived by his wife, Valerie J. Fridley, whom he married in 1981; daughter,

Patrick Michael HANYOK, SR-DOD: 2013 PATRICK MICHAEL HANYOK, SRDOD: 2013 July 9th, Patrick Michael Hanyok, Sr. of Elkton MD died on Tuesday, July 9th at home surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Patrick was born on March 2, 1952 in Washington DC to John and Albina Hanyok. He was raised in Greenbelt MD with his five younger brothers. He graduated from Parkdale High School in 1970, where he met his wife Joanne Izzo (72). Patrick and Joanne moved their family to Elkton MD in 1981. After many years of being a siding contractor he came down from the scaffold boards and obtained his CDL license. That led to his hire at Weiton and traveling up and down the east coast. Patrick loved to enjoy the outdoors through kayaking, canoeing, hiking and family vacations. With his wife by his side, they enjoyed adventures such as soaring in a glider plane, riding a hot air balloon, touring MD lighthouses, exploring caves, and digging for fossils. He also delighted in trips to the beach with some of his brothers and their families. As part of his passion for nature, he had an extensive collection of rocks, bones, insects and other items found on his excursions. In his later years, he was 70 always taking pictures wherever he went. He even had a picture published in the Heart of Cecil County 2013 calendar for senior photographers. Patrick was involved with the Boy Scouts of America as a teenager, with his own young boys, and then again for the past 4 years. He was proud to give back to the community with Troop 443 of Elkton. He taught them skills to help earn their merit badges and how to appreciate the fine details of nature. Patrick is survived by his wife of 38 years Joanne (72), mother Albina Hanyok of Elkton MD, daughter Dr. Tricia Duffy and husband Patrick of Elkton MD, son David and wife Fran of Westminster MD and grandson Matt Schinzel, son Patrick Jr. of Denver CO, daughter Lisa of Elkton MD, brothers John (71) of Fairfax VA, currently serving in Afganistan, Anthony (74) and wife Colleen of Boiling Springs PA, Timothy and wife Marcella of Raleigh NC, Thomas and wife Kathy of Bowie MD, Philip and wife Terri of Savannah GA, sister Ellen Hanyok of Greenbelt MD, and father-in-law Joseph Izzo of Laurel MD.
