The Song of Courage!

Courage is fundamentally important in life. Indeed, no one can live life to the fullest or live a life of integrity without courage. It is defined as "mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty" (Marian-Webster Dictionary).

So we need courage to be true to ourselves, courage to be faithful to God, courage to be true, faithful and honest to our spouses, children and family members. We need courage to be honest and loyal to our friends, courage to stand up for justice and against injustice, courage to speak the truth, courage to show tough love to our loved ones, courage not to jump on the bandwagon of popular opinions or pop-culture and/or political ideologies. We need courage to tell the truth even if it means standing alone, courage to love beyond laws and regulations, courage to love, forgive and pray for our enemies, and courage to give generously even when we don't have enough. We need courage to quit making excuses for not doing the right thing, courage to be true Christians (disciples of Christ) in words and actions.

To the Israelites God said, "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you" (Deut 31:6). To prophet Jeremiah he asked to have the courage to carry out his assigned mission:

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you, a prophet to the nations I appointed you.... stand up and tell them all that I command you. Be not crushed on their account, as though I would leave you crushed before them.... They will fight against you but not prevail over you, for I am with you to deliver you, says the LORD.

Jesus says to all of us, his followers, "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid" (Mt 14:27) and elsewhere, he says, "I have told you this so that through me you may have peace. In the world you'll have trouble, but be courageous--I've overcome the world!" (Jn 16:33)

Brothers and sisters, please know that "God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline" (2 Tim 1:7). Let us, therefore, pray asking him to increase this spirit in us everyday that we may truly be Christians in words and actions.

El valor es fundamentalmente importante en la vida. De hecho, nadie puede vivir la vida al m?ximo o una vida de integridad sin valor. Se define como "fuerza mental o moral para aventurarse, perseverar y resistir el peligro, el miedo o la dificultad" (Diccionario MarianWebster).

Necesitamos valor para decir la verdad, incluso si eso significa estar solo, valor para amar m?s all? de las leyes y regulaciones, valor para amar, perdonar y orar por nuestros enemigos, y valor para dar generosamente incluso cuando no tenemos suficiente. Necesitamos valor para dejar de poner excusas para no hacer lo correcto, valor para ser verdaderos cristianos (disc?pulos de Cristo) en palabras y acciones.

A los israelitas, Dios dijo: "S? fuerte y valiente. No temas ni te aterrorices por ellos, porque el Se?or tu Dios va contigo; nunca te dejar? ni te desamparar? "(Deut 31: 6). Al profeta Jerem?as le pidi? tener el valor de llevar a cabo su misi?n asignada:

Antes de formarte en el vientre, te conoc?, antes de que nacieras, te dediqu? un profeta a las naciones que te nombr? ... Lev?ntate y diles todo lo que yo te mando. No te aplasten por su cuenta, como si te dejara aplastado ante ellos ... Luchar?n contra ti, pero no prevalecer?n sobre ti, porque yo estoy contigo para librarte, dice el SE?OR.

Jes?s nos dice a todos nosotros, sus seguidores: "?Tengan valor! Soy yo. No tengas miedo "(Mt 14:27) y en otra parte, ?l dice:" Te lo he dicho para que a trav?s de m? puedas tener paz. En el mundo tendr?s problemas, pero s? valiente, ?he vencido al mundo! "(Jn 16:33)Hermanos y hermanas, sepan que "Dios no nos dio un esp?ritu de cobard?a, sino un esp?ritu de poder, de amor y de autodisciplina" (2 Tim 1: 7). Por lo tanto, oremos pidi?ndole que aumente este esp?ritu en nosotros todos los d?as para que podamos ser verdaderamente cristianos en palabras y acciones.

I remember when I was in high school and my youth minister was talking about starting Lifeteen in our parish and I was confused about what Lifeteen is. My youth minister explained that it was a company that has confirmation and youth ministry resources that is becoming a popular source for youth ministry and is centered around the Eucharist. I remember thinking to myself "Shouldn't all programs be centered around the Eucharist?" I came to find out that a lot of programs were more catechetical than evangelical which means that most programs were focused on the teachings and feeding you facts rather than creating a relationship with Christ. We have been using Lifeteen in our parish since I was teen and I can't imagine life without. One thing we do a fair amount is have adoration for our teens during youth group and classes and on retreats. The main reason for this is how can we expect our teens to want to learn about their faith if they don't have a relationship with Christ? The Eucharist is the source and summit of our faith and yet it is not always revered the way it should be by most catholics. We need a relationship with Christ that is based in prayer and that is constantly being worked on. We have a tendency to get comfortable and wonder why things aren't the same and its because like any relationship, it requires constant work and attention. Christ should be the center of our life, not off center or far away, but the center. So I ask the question, honestly, where is Christ in your life?

Recuerdo cuando estaba en la escuela secundaria y mi ministro de j?venes hablaba de comenzar a Lifeteen en nuestra parroquia y estaba confundido acerca de lo que es Lifeteen. Mi ministro de j?venes explic? que era una compa??a que tiene recursos de confirmaci?n y de ministerios juveniles que se est? convirtiendo en una fuente popular para el ministerio juvenil y se centra en la Eucarist?a. Recuerdo que pens? para mis adentros: "?No deber?an centrarse todos los programas en torno a la Eucarist?a?". Descubr? que muchos de los programas eran m?s catequ?ticos que evang?licos, lo que significa que la mayor?a de los programas se centraban en las ense?anzas y le proporcionaban datos en lugar de crearlos. Una relaci?n con Cristo. Hemos estado usando Lifeteen en nuestra parroquia desde que era adolescente y no puedo imaginar la vida sin ?l. Una cosa que hacemos bastante es adorar a nuestros adolescentes durante el grupo de j?venes y las clases y en los retiros. La raz?n principal de esto es ?c?mo podemos esperar que nuestros adolescentes quieran aprender sobre su fe si no tienen una relaci?n con Cristo? La Eucarist?a es la fuente y cumbre de nuestra fe y, sin embargo, no siempre es venerada como debe ser por la mayor?a de los cat?licos. Necesitamos una relaci?n con Cristo basada en la oraci?n y en la que se est? trabajando constantemente. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

The song of the angels, "Holy, Holy, Holy," resounds from our lips at every Mass. There was a widespread belief in the first religions of the world that God stirred creation into being by a word, a song, a musical note. Music and a sense of God's presence have always been inseparable. In the liturgy, your voice is invited into this song as the priest names the reasons for our praise. "Heaven and earth are full of your glory," and we are not passive onlookers, but participants in this glory. Catholic prayer no longer assigns this angelic hymn to a choir, but gives it to you to sing. Even if your voice is thought to be suitable only for a well insulated shower stall, you are called into this song.

We are born to sing--just listen to a baby testing the full range of newly discovered vocal abilities. Soon we get shushed and hushed into quiet, and given lots of messages that our voices are unwanted, and that we need to raise our hands in order to be heard. All of that is overturned in liturgy, the place where God waits to hear us come alive in the song of all creation. In heaven, everyone's in the choir; why not start practicing now?
