33210559055LAGRANGEDISTRICT00LAGRANGEDISTRICTCindy Hall – PresidentIt was my very first National Assembly and after the thrill of seeing 6,000 United Methodist Women in one room, I wondered why I had waited so long to go. And those 6,000 women represented hundreds of thousands back home in their districts and units. like our church, we are a connectional organization and many small churches and units make a powerful impact when they are added together. The speakers and the workshops were both excellent and gave us information on a broad array of subjects, including our four focus areas: 1 Maternal & Child Health; 2 Climate Justice; 3 Criminalization of Communities of Color & Mass Incarceration; 4 Economic Inequality. We had a good showing from the North Georgia Conference: And we met women from all over the world. These ladies are from the California-Pacific Conference:National Assembly re-ignited me and fired me up because I saw the huge impact that our organization is making in our country and across the world. I’m excited about Mission U next month (July 27-28 in Toccoa) where we will take classes on our up-coming Mission Studies. And finally, unit presidents, start pulling some information together so you can get your unit report to me by July 1. I’m glad to be your sister in Christ and in United Methodist Women.Grace and Peace,Cindy Hall904875835406091186086264759118608626475Tami Kemberling- VPHave you seen boxed water? Biodegradable silverware? Sleeping mats made from recycled bags? Metal, glass or pasta straws? No, this is not an environmental article, but these things were introduced to me by the United Methodist Women.?When it has been said, that we cook church suppers, yes, we do. But we do, do much more, 5500 box lunches were the most eco/friendly lunches I’ve seen. At a mission study last year, we introduced to the problem with plastic straws. Now this is being discussed on National news, printed in menus and discussed at corporate headquarter. United Methodist Women are movers and shakers, not only caring for Gods people but also for Gods earth. Get on the bandwagon, do your small part and watch it grow. Come to mission U and learn the possibilities. Together we can make a difference.TamiBenita Epps – TreasurerThe LaGrange District Pledge to Mission for 2018 is $15,5000. Look at how the weather has been affecting the creeks, rivers, and trees in our area and across the state. Watching trees fall due to excessive rain and strong wind passing through, then down comes a tree. I began to think how our lives resemble the tree at times. We are hit sometimes from all sides with a lot of things going on.? The enemy will try to discourage us from spending time with God. Will even try to get us to doubt things. Yet, as a Believer we know that our strength comes from God. We have been taught to praise him, offer thanksgiving for our blessings and to spend time with him.? This is what the world does not understand, that we do live in an upside-down world. No matter what the world throws at us or the enemy throws at us, we will be okay. We may not feel it, all we need to do is believe it! We have been told and have read that we must Stand and to Stand Firm. Where is your anchor?? Is it in the Rock? Spending time with God, listening to him, staying in the Word daily, praying for ourselves and others prepares us to step into the world as Believers of Jesus Christ. The more we keep moving, we are attaining our goal, which is to be more Christ like.? We can then move out into our communities and be the Light of Christ in the dark places. I hope everyone has a wonderful end of Spring and a fantastic Summer.? Pray for the leaders of our conference as they will be meeting in a few days. Those who will be attending enjoy the times of fellowship with our Sisters and Brothers in Christ.?Karen PolstonNancy Ricciardi – Membership, Nurture and Outreach ???On our way to Assembly 2018 in Columbus, OH we made a stop at Matthew 25 Ministries in Cincinnati to deliver the pill bottles we have been collecting this year in the LaGrange District. We had a top carrier full + another box. 31115107950? ?? They make use of pill bottles in third world countries, but they make use of just about everything. The only donations they refuse to take are glass, furniture, and electronics.?? ? ?Another ministry that fascinated me was their Tide Truck that goes into disaster relief areas and washes up to 100 loads of laundry a day to help get people back on their feet.?? ?? How many of you have found yourselves with leftover paint after finishing a project around the house? Matthew 25 Ministries takes old paint, processes it by color, and pours it into 5 gallons bucket called Rainbow paint. It is then used to paint houses built in third world countries.?? ?? For even more information about Matthew 25 Ministries go to a May 17, 2018 post on our LaGrange District United Methodist Women's Facebook Page. If you haven't Like the Page, please do so. When we post things please make comments and let us know what you think. If you only look without responding I think it must disappear into some Facebook graveyard somewhere in technology space. (Can you tell I know nothing about how it really works?) More people see our pages when you respond, and you will see more of our posts too. If you realize you haven't seen any posts lately, go to the district page and scroll through to see what you've missed.?? ? ?Tami, Cindy, and I would love to come share our experiences at Matthew 25 Ministries and Assembly 2018 with you. Just invite us to your unit or circle. We will likely be three motor mouths about the marvelous experiences we had with women from all over the world. We have some pretty good pictures too. One thing that really struck me about the Assembly was that United Methodist Women are a marvelously diverse worldwide group with widely differing political persuasions, but we do something that's not happening in the general population. We ALL work with Faith, Hope, and Love in Action to minister to the needs of women, children, and youth throughout the world. I literally get chills thinking about the impact of 800,000 women working with God to change the world.Social ActionRed Bird Mission announcement for 2019.?The North Georgia Conference United Methodist Women will be traveling to Red Bird Mission, a United Methodist Women's mission institution, March 31-April 6, 2019 for a Work Camp experience in the mountains of southeastern Kentucky. There will be jobs for all ability levels. We hope to have a building/repair/painting crew, a group to spend the week at the Red Bird School possibly doing an art camp, a group sorting and helping in the community store, as well as, other possibilities. The cost will likely be between $300-$500. Put this 2019 date on your calendar and start saving your money. You don't want to miss this one. Here are some pictures from our 2018 experience with four North Georgia women and Wallace, our fantastic teacher and crew leader.?
