Lab on Two Way Tables using Drugs data Name _______________________

Open the data file drugsurv.mtw and you will see the answers of 503 people 18 years or older, selected at random, for a phone interview in a state in the Midwest in 1997. The variables in the data file are:

• Gender

• Age

• years of education

• ever smoker

• smoking status

• tried marijuana

• alcohol dependency.

• Age group

For each one of the 3 questions:

• Write the null and alternative hypotheses

• Produce a two way table with counts, raw percentages and expected values

• Perform the Chi-square test (use significance level [pic]=0.05)

• Interpret the results of the Chi-square test

• In case the variables are not independent add any other interpretation that would help the reader to understand what is the relationship between the variables

1) Is trying marijuana gender related?

2) Is trying marijuana independent of being having being a smoker in some point of life?

3) Is having tried marijuana something that is more common in some age groups than in others?
