Knox or to Parris Island during the summer, this year we have managed to obtain reservations for several events in the Washington DC/Quantico Marine Base area during the second week of June. This will be the first time we have gone to the Capital area.Our schedule calls for us to depart on Tuesday 10 June around 1000. We will travel via commercial bus to the Holiday Inn at Dumphries, VA where we will stay until Saturday 14 June when we return.Our tentative schedule is: (all breakfasts will be at the motel)Tues 10 June: Depart NFHS. Stop along the way for lunch (fast food type meal.)Wed 11 June: Tour the Pentagon, Arlington National Cemetery and the National Air and Space Museum.Thurs 12 June: Tour various units aboard Marine Corps Base, Quantico, Va. (We will eat lunch and dinner at the chow hall on base---free for cadets---money saving opportunity)Fri 13 June: Tour the Marine Corps Museum, tour the US Navy Museum at the Washington Navy Yard and go to the Evening Parade at Marine Corps Barracks, 8th and I street.Sat:14 June: Return to Cumming.The cost of the trip will be $150 per cadet. This will cover the motel (4 nights and breakfast), a group Polo style shirt, and various snacks throughout the week (pizza at night at the motel.) Cadets will be responsible for the cost of some of their meals (lunch and dinner on Tues (travel day), Wed, Fri and lunch on the trip home) and for incidental expenses (souvenirs, t-shirts, etc .)We will not wear uniforms on this trip. The day we go to Quantico cadets will be required to wear our Green NFHS JROTC shirt and shorts (school appropriate). The day we visit the Pentagon they may wear school appropriate shirts and shorts/trousers. On the day we attend the Evening Parade at Marine Barracks 8th and I, cadets will wear khaki trousers and the group Polo shirt. (The Evening Parade is a formal event and is often attended by Congressmen and other dignitaries. We want to ensure that our cadets look good for the event.)Cadets must have a current accident insurance policy in order to go on this trip.We can take 48 cadets on the trip. Consideration will be given to class (senior, junior, sophomore, freshman), JROTC experience, and proven dependability and behavior. Paperwork must be received by 9 May and our selections will be made by 13 May. Full payment for the trip ($150) must be received by 20 May.We will hold a parent meeting on the evening of 5 May to discuss specific topics about the trip.
