Learning Team: Differentiating Between Market Structures

Purpose of Assignment

The assignment asks students to apply important microeconomics concepts toward the competitive strategies of an organization of their own choosing that affect its long-term profitability. Students will evaluate the differences between market structures. Students will review the organization’s strategic plan, marketing overview, market surveys, and other material to evaluate the organization’s competitiveness in the marketplace, including the views from their customers. In the process, students identify the market structure they believe best applies to this organization, and assess how the market structure positively and negatively affects the firm’s long-term profitability. The purpose is to identify applications of economics in the evaluation of the strategies acted upon by firms.
