Marketing and Business Development Manager

Department: System Development Reports To: Chief Strategy Officer

Salary: TBA Status: Full-time/Exempt

SUMMARY: While reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer this position has responsibility and activities related to public information, media relations, government relations, communications, marketing, branding, sales and business development for Chatham Area Transit Authority.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

□ Works collaboratively as part of team to develop and implement comprehensive and integrated marketing, communications, and outreach plans that focus on short-term and long-term strategies;

□ Determines and implements other short and long-term marketing strategies as needed to support CAT’s strategic goals.

□ Develop business relationships with major employers and community stakeholders to improve revenue, ridership and transportation operations for the community.

□ Responsible for outside sales programs including ticketing, passes, and various authority programs.

□ Provides creative leadership, with input from other team leaders, for all visual, technical, and environmental design concepts for marketing-related materials, fare media, signage, customer and community outreach programs;

□ Collaborates with the Communications Manager/Publications Editor and Marketing & Communications Coordinator in executing a quarterly electronic newsletter, as well as other collateral materials for print and website;

□ Conducts customer surveys as needed for marketing initiatives and other market research such as focus groups, discussion groups, podcasts, meetings, etc. as part of a continual improvement process to enhance CAT’s standing in the community;

□ Staffs and/or assists with community events such as Earth Day, university student activity day, Chamber of Commerce events, etc.

□ Works proactively with agency personnel to identify and address marketing needs and opportunities;

□ Maintains a positive image and reputation for CAT by aggressively marketing the agency, its services and accomplishments to internal and external audiences;

□ Finds creative and innovative ways to position agency’s public transit expertise and thought leadership accomplishments externally;

□ Provides a creative vision for CAT marketing efforts to effectively position CAT and its brand, increase ridership and revenue, and improve public awareness of CAT’s community image utilizing both traditional and non-traditional media;

□ Develops and enforces brand and messaging standards to ensure quality control and consistency

□ Consults with CSO to set marketing budgets, understand goals and objectives;

□ Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Provides supervision over the entire marketing, communications, graphics and business development program through direct reports and in-direct reports.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE The preferred candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree in Marketing or Communications and have five years marketing, sales, or business development r s experience. Prior experience with a public transit agency is plus.

LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. English required, bilingual a plus.

REASONING ABILITY Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions, Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations. Strong analytical skills are a must.

COMPUTER SKILLS Experience with word processing, spreadsheets, Internet software, e-mail, and/or database software preferred. Microsoft Office skills are required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Professional procurement certification is a plus.
