The Opportunity

Marywood University, a private, coeducational, Catholic, liberal arts institution of approximately 3,000 students located in Scranton, Pennsylvania, seeks an experienced, dynamic, and talented Senior Director of Admissions. Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment Services and Student Success, the Senior Director will lead recruitment efforts to enroll academically capable and diverse undergraduate, graduate, international, intensive English, and pre-collegiate program students in the University.

Located on 115 scenic acres, Marywood University blends outstanding academic, residential, athletic, and recreational facilities within a safe, residential neighborhood. The University offers 60 Bachelors degrees, 36 Masters degrees, and two doctoral degree programs. Eighty-seven percent of faculty has earned their terminal degree, and a low 12:1 student to faculty ratio ensures easy access to those top scholars. The Scranton/Wilkes Barre metropolitan area, the fourth largest in Pennsylvania, offers a low cost of living, excellent schools, easy access to multiple outdoor recreational opportunities, professional baseball and ice hockey, and close proximity to major east coast cities.

Position Responsibilities

The Senior Director of Admissions will lead the recruitment team in pursuing targeted enrollments to reach University financial, academic, and mission objectives. To achieve enrollment goals, he or she will carefully select, train, motivate, empower, and lead staff and direct the development and implementation of policies and procedures to optimize staffing for the efficient processing, review and evaluation of students for admission.

The Senior Director of Admissions will develop and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders (faculty, deans, administrators, current students, athletics, alumni relations, and staff) to educate and inform regarding admission trends, strategies, and tactics. Employing an analytical mindset to effectively use data the Senior Director will provide regular reports, data analyses, and evaluation to the Vice President for Enrollment Services and Student Success; collaborate with campus partners to promote a culture of enrollment management; evaluate and research enrollment trends to shape strategic directions, regularly reassess the effectiveness of recruitment activities, and make appropriate adjustments to lead an effort that is proactive, strategic, and responsive to the changing needs of the student market. It is critical to maintain awareness of current demographic, legal and ethical issues affecting admission policies and programs in higher education. The Senior Director will facilitate long range planning using research and applied theory to analyze the marketplace.

The Senior Director will routinely analyze data to shape enrollment directions and make appropriate adjustments, regularly reassessing the effectiveness of recruitment activities. He or she will reach out to external stakeholders including, but not limited to, parents, students, guidance officials, college placement officers, independent counselors, and admission-specific professional associations.

In addition, the Senior Director will lead committees in order to propel the priorities of University Admissions and facilitate long range planning using research and applied theory to analyze the marketplace. S/he also serves on additional university committees in an advisory capacity.

He or she will lead the development of, and execute initiatives as outlined in the Strategic Enrollment Plan with University constituents; work with the Associate Director for Communications, and other colleagues, to implement the communication strategies for University Admissions, including

?? Ability to understand and articulate technological innovations (including CRM), and to apply that knowledge and skill to support admissions processes and communications

?? Demonstrated experience with financial aid leveraging tools and forecast and predictive modeling (including net tuition revenue models)

?? Success in building and refining prospect pools that align with institutional priorities and goals

?? A high degree of involvement with admissions/enrollment management professional associations to increase institutional visibility and improve staff/personal professional development

?? Ability to be articulate, persuasive and precise in oral and written communications with internal and external audiences, including the President, Cabinet, Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, alumni (internal) and students, parents, school counselors, vendors (external);

?? Experience with international student recruitment including international travel, student visas, and identifying appropriate international markets

?? Possess an excellent understanding of current admissions best practices in all functional areas
