CSULB – Change Title of a DegreeAcademic Programs OfficeOriginal Title of the Degree and Requested New Title of the Degree:Original: Master of Arts in Kinesiology, Option in Sport Management (Online)New: Master of Arts in Sports ManagementUpdating the title to Master of Arts in Sport Management provides a cleaner definition of the program’s direction and intended outcomes. It better reflects our mission, which remains the same: providing real-world experience in the sports management industry through internship opportunities. We are requesting use of CIP code: 31.0504 (Sports Management). Our previous CIP code change request form notes that the degree was offered at 31.0501 (Kinesiology – general), and we feel the new CIP code closely identifies with the CSULB Sport Management Program’s focus on administration and management. The program also includes instruction on the marketing of sport activities, personnel, facilities and finance.The new name does not necessarily reflect in recent changes in curriculum, we would continue to offer our Sports Management focused curriculum. This change does not impinge on any other academic units within our College of Health and Human Services or across our institution. Teach-out PlanThe new name brings about a standalone degree that completely mimics the existing curriculum for this program. Current students in the program will transition to earning the degree with the new title and will not require additional advising due to the same requirements. All future students will graduate with the new degree title. No traditional teach-out is necessary.
