A Biopolitics e-learning course offered for credit towards a
Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) degree by the Hellenic American University

This year, the Biopolitics International Organisation (B.I.O.) is cooperating with the Hellenic American University (HAU) and offering its e-learning course on “Green Salary – Business Management for Climate Change Mitigation” for graduate level credit.
Credits: Upon successful completion of the course students earn 3 graduate level credits (6 ECTS). Credits can be applied towards an MBA degree or any other graduate program internationally.
Registration and Fees: Since this particular course is part of HAU’s MBA program, it is not free of charge (unlike other B.I.O. courses offered). Learning Objectives
Developed for students with an interest in climate education for business professionals, the course provides an introduction to issues of biopolicy and green employment and shows how climate change adaptation schemes apply to current and future business management practices and career tracks. The material presented is designed to equip students with a deeper awareness of how the business sector is affected by climate change, as well as demonstrate how climate-smart development policies can expand business opportunities. The course will therefore:
– examine the concept of a Green Salary as a way of facilitating the jobs-environment link
– emphasize good environmental practices as good business practices with examples and lessons from different sectors
– outline employment opportunities that climate change mitigation can provide
– discuss developments in the climate change adaptation field that affect business management, job training and employment
– review initiatives that have successfully linked climate change mitigation practices with economic and business development worldwide
Learning Outcomes
After completion of the course, students:
– will have gained grounding in a broad range of climate change issues and their implications for development and business agendas
– should be able to explain how climate responsible business management practices offer opportunities for economic growth and career development
– should be able to demonstrate knowledge of how and why climate policy encourages competitiveness and innovation in business
– will have acquired insight on the steps the business community can take (or is already taking) to manage climate risks and for which the sector requires capable leaders and managers
The course will be delivered electronically through HAU’s Blackboard Learning System. It will feature 4 modular study periods with corresponding blog sessions, as well as four synchronous video lectures. Students will submit a Final Essay at the end of the semester, following consultation with the instructors.
Instructors
Professor Agni Vlavianos Arvanitis is President and Founder of the Biopolitics International Organisation, a non-profit organization promoting international cooperation and education for the environment. A Nobel Peace Prize nominee several times over, she is a Fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science, Member of the Vienna Economic Forum, and Founder and President of the Hellenic Chapter of the Club of Rome, Professor Vlavianos Arvanitis has published numerous articles, monographs, textbooks and educational materials in a range of fields including biopolitics, environmental education, and biotourism.
Professor Christos Efthymiopoulos is a physicist and Research Director of the Academy of Athens Research Center for Astronomy and Applied Mathematics. He has taught at the University of Athens and the University of the Aegean, and seminars at the Universities of Padova, Patras and La Plata. He has published extensively in international scientific journals and has served as member of the Governing Council of the Hellenic Astronomical Society and the Association of Greek Physicists.
