DEPARTMENT OF ANTHROPOLOGY AND DEVELOPMENT STUDIESInformation about MA in Development StudiesThank you for considering the Masters degree in Development Studies at the University of Johannesburg. Currently this degree is only offered via research, thus no coursework. The minimum requirement to gain access to a MA in Development Studies is a BA Hons in Development Studies (or a cognate field) with an average mark of at least 65%. For application, you are required to submit certified copies of your academic records. If your BA Hons degree is from an institution outside of South Africa we also need a certified Certificate of Evaluation letter from the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) to attest the level of your qualification, compared to those in South Africa. You also have to submit your curriculum vitae (CV), and an example of your written work (maybe your Honors research report, or one of your best essays in your Honours year).In addition to the above, you are required to submit a ‘mini-proposal’ (of 3-5 pages) on your plans for research, including your research questions, rationale and proposed methodology. To apply, you have to submit all these documents, as well as the UJ application form (to be found on the UJ website ( HYPERLINK "" uj.ac.za)) to the Development Studies coordinator.
