The Elon University Global Education Center (GEC), located in the Global Commons, supports the mission, academic programs, and advancement of Elon University. The Elon GEC develops and facilitates experiential learning opportunities for the Elon University Community that promote understanding of the self, the world's peoples and cultures, and that provide a framework for lifelong intercultural learning.

Position Description

The Global Education Graduate Apprentice (GA) will meet with the supervisor at the start of the year to generate a professional development plan connecting the apprenticeship to courses, career goals and complete written reflections at the end of each year. Weekly meetings with the supervisor will continue throughout the GA's placement in the GEC for professional feedback and evaluation that will foster the growth and further learning of the GA. The GA will interact with staff members in the GEC in order to develop a strong grasp and mastery of the different operations within the field of International Education (e.g., business and data management, international student services, Study Abroad and Study USA). Attendance at weekly Study USA/Study Abroad meetings and monthly Global Education Center meetings will enable the GA to be aware of and engaged with office and institutional initiatives and priorities. This role will be exposed to, and gain relevant experience in, the various functional roles of a successful International Education Office including researching, developing and helping implement new pre-departure resources for students, create content for the GEC's social media outlets, engage with faculty and GEC staff to facilitate workshops, panels and focus groups on global engagement, and develop training materials for faculty and staff program leaders. The GA will also have the opportunity to plan and lead pre-departure and post-experience community building activities and reflections, and to co-manage 2-3 short term programs. In consultation with the supervisor and with the mentorship and guidance of GEC staff, the GA will propose, research and complete a final integrative project. Professional development opportunities will be offered to the GA through existing campus-wide programs as well as local and regional International Education conferences/events such as the regional NAFSA and the N.C.
