Today's first reading from the Prophet Isaiah is one of the most commonly used passages of scripture for funerals. Within it, we can find so much comfort, we can find peace, but most of all we can find hope. For Isaiah writes, that on this day, that final day, the Lord will remove the veil that divides us the natural and supernatural. He will destroy our greatest fear, death itself once and for all. He will wipe away the tears shed from every face once and for all. Through which, we will finally be able to rejoice for all ages with Him in the Kingdom of Heaven for all eternity. One of St. Paul's most quoted lines in various forms speaks of faith, hope and love, of which the greatest is love. Yet, we often times find ourselves losing our faith and with that, any hope that comes from it. For it is from our faith that we can find, seek out where we need it and live our lives as ones filled with hope, no matter the circumstances. When we lose our faith, when we lose that hope, we fail to recognize that God's love for us conquers all things...including death. The hope that we have through our faith in the resurrection slips away and we begin to see only the suffering of the cross. Although having that mindset at times can be good, to help us keep things in perspective, to help us "reset" our foundation in life, it can more importantly lead us away from our faith as our source for inspiration and motivation. It can quickly take over our lives, leaving us to live with little or no hope at all.
Whenever I look at a crucifix these days, there is a great sense of comfort that I find in it that has taken quite a long time to see. To actually come to see it not just as a sign of our faith, not just how we begin our prayer, but as a sign of hope...because within that simple action of making the sign of the cross, or gazing upon it, we know that that isn't the end of Jesus' "story." Not only that, but through His own resurrection, He has promised the very same for all of us who have come to believe through our simple act of faith in Him and His promising word. Leading us to see beyond the questions of: Why did God chose to bring about salvation in this way? Why do I or others have to suffer throughout the world? Why can't everything just go the way I want things to? We can see through the cross, a chance to offer heartfelt thankfulness to the Lord. Who by coming down and saving humanity from within, living amongst our suffering and offering Himself up for our salvation, we can look to redirect our hearts and minds to always rely on our faith as our foundation. Our faith that we nourish each day as we seek Him and His divine love inside us where He dwells, to help us to always find hope in any situation. Showing us that keeping our eyes always fixed on that final day to come, we can find, comfort, peace, hope all through His promise of eternal salvation, given out of love.

SCHOOL NEWS
Saint Ambrose School is excited to highlight our very own twist on what it means to be a STEM school. We consider ourselves to be a STREAM school because everyday our students get to experience curriculum that enhances their knowledge of Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics.
The teachers provide an environment where the students can experiment, make mistakes, correct mistakes, and most importantly learn (or is it have fun!). Students are equipped with tablets (and chromebooks in the middle school) to challenge different levels of concepts- from learning letters, numbers, and mathematical facts to researching topics in Science, ELA, or Social Studies. Grades 6-8 even get involved and prepare lessons for the primary kiddos about our faith every Friday.
The best thing about St. Ambrose is most of the time the students do not even realize they are learning! To them, they are playing a game, doing an art project, or just have fun with their friends. However, in reality, they are sharpening their skills on solving an algebraic equation or they are they are developing foundational skills on what makes a solid foundation.
Every day is an adventure through the STREAM here at Saint Ambrose. Check out our learning adventures on our facebook page and follow us on twitter (@lathamstambrose).

St. Ignatius of Antioch, Bishop and Martyr October 17tth
Ignatius was a bishop of Antioch who died around107 AD, He lived at the same time as the surviving Apostles of Jesus and some believe he had heard St. John preach in person. He was alive during the persecution of Christians under Domitian and was sent to martyrdom for refusing the order of the Roman emperor Trajan to worship pagan gods. As bishop, Ignatius did what he could to empower people to refuse this unjust law. Ignatius made use of the long journey to the place of his martyrdom to teach, composing seven letters of instruction and exhortation to seven Christian communities. His life is a reminder of the mission of the Church in teaching, in service, and through the witness of our own lives, including laying down our own lives as our Savior did as witnesses to the Truth.
