Reading/Language Arts

1. Read with your child every night.

a. Make sure your child can read the words and comprehend the story.

b. Make a list of words your child misses and review them and their meaning.

c. During the story, ask your child what is happening, why a character did something, to predict what they think will happen next, what the main idea of the story is, who the characters are, what the setting is…

2. Review the weekly spelling and vocabulary words.

a. Use the words often around your child.

b. Play scrabble or boggle with your child.

3. Have your child write at home.

a. Allow them to write in a journal at home about their day.

Math

1. Purchase or create multiplication and division cards. Go over them every night!

2. Talk to your child daily about what they are learning in school.

3. Allow your child to help you bake dinner. Keep track of ingredients and the timer.

4. Allow your child to buy something and make change.

5. Make your child solve everyday word problems: I need 12 apples to make a pie. I only have 3. How many more do I need?
