Technology Education - EAMS Mrs. Dutton

Student Name ___________________________________ Period _______

Welcome to Technology Education for 6h grade at East Aurora Middle School. This is the second of four years I will teach your child for Technology Education. In an effort to keep everyone informed of the grade level contents and adherence to our school district, state and national standards I will be sending home sheets for you to review. I will also send home progress reports for your signature. It would be greatly appreciated if you would sign and date these sheets and have them returned to school as soon as possible. The signed sheets will count as a homework grade for each student. My school web site also has information on the curriculum.

Thank you for your time.

Standard 5: Technology, 7 statements

(State Education Department)

1. Engineering design – Engineering design is an iterative process involving modeling and optimization used to develop technological solutions to problems within given constraints. Design for a solution.

2. Tools, resources and technological processes – Technological tools, materials, and other resources should be selected on the basis of safety, cost, availability, appropriateness, and environmental impact; technological processes change energy, information, and material resources into more useful forms. Selection of appropriate resources and how they are processed.

3. Computer technology – Computers, as tools for design, modeling, information processing, communication, and system control, have greatly increased human productivity and knowledge. Computer aided design & manufacturing, modeling, and research.

4. Technological systems – Technological systems are designed to achieve specific results and produce outputs, such as products, structures, services, energy or other systems. Systems and subsystems.

5. History and evolution of technology – Technology has been the driving force in the evolution of society from an agricultural to industrial to information to biotechnological base. History and development.

6. Impacts of technology – Technology can have positive and negative impacts on individuals, society, and the environment. Humans have the capability and responsibility to constrain or promote technological development. How technology affect people and the environment.
