Making a Math Poster

Making a Math Poster

Second Quarter Project

Objective: The second quarter project will address different standards from the California Mathematics Framework. The standard that you work on is dependent upon the topic of your poster. You will work individually to create a math poster. The poster should tell readers about the pros of the topic or offer important information about the topic. The following is a list of possible poster topics:

• Everyday Mathematics (Math that we us in our everyday life)

• Milestones Of Mathematics (The most important math concepts)

• Women of Mathematics

• History of Algebra

• The Importance of Math (Why is it important to learn math)

• When Will I Use This (Careers in which math is necessary)

• A World Without Math (What would the world be like if there was no math)

• Minority Mathematicians (The word "minority" may not be an entirely accurate one. What I mean, simply, is other mathematicians who are not white Caucasian males from Europe or USA or Canada)

Requirements:

1. Graphics or Illustrations – May be computer generated, drawn, photocopied, or cut from books or magazines.

2. Title – The title on your poster should be the topic that you chose.

3. Important Dates – Any historical information should include accurate date. ( For Everyday Mathematics, A World Without Math, and The Importance of Math it may not be necessary to include dates)

4. Relevant Information – Your poster should be informative. It should teach the reader something about your topic. The information should be brief, factual, concise and written in your own words.

5. Resources – A minimum of 3 resources is required. A bibliography should be attached to the back of the poster.

6. Minimum Size Requirement – 11” x 14”

Project Assessment: The project will be graded using a four-point rubric. Please use the rubric as a guide to help you in your efforts to show proficiency.

Due Date: December 1th 2010

Quarter projects make up 15% of your total grade. Failure to turn in a quarter project or a poorly done project could greatly affect you grade.

As the parent/guardian of ________________________, I will provide the necessary materials in order for my child to complete his/her project. I will help ensure that the project will be turned in on time. I am also aware that if no project is completed, the grade on his/her progress report will no longer be valid and will drop significantly, probably to an F.
