TEXT: Malachi 3:6-12

TOPIC: Why I Believe in Tithing

MAIN POINT: To proclaim six reasons why every believer should tithe

1. Tithing is Biblical

Malachi 3:6-12

Matthew 23:23 (HCSB)

Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You pay a tenth of mint, dill, and cumin, yet you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy, and faith. These things should have been done without neglecting the others.

2. Tithing is Proportional

2 Corinthians 8:12 (NIV)

For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what he does not have.

3. Tithing will Finance My Church’s Mission

Matthew 28:18-20

4. Tithing is a Statement of My Trust in God

Psalm 111:5 (NIV)

He provides food for those who fear him; he remembers his covenant forever.

5. Tithing Habits Begin Now

James 4:13-14 (NIV)

13Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” 14Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.

6. Tithing is My Desire As a Believer

Galatians 2:20 (NIV)

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Tithing is a spiritual issue. When we give our hearts fully to Christ, all other areas in our lives will be included.

Will you give your heart fully to Christ today?
