Daily Grades (50%):

Homework

All homework assignments should be completed before the beginning of class the following day. Some assignments will be graded based on completion while others may be graded based on accuracy. Tutorials are available for anyone that needs help on homework. Late homework will be accepted, ½ off after one day, after one day late homework will NOT be accepted.

Quizzes

Quizzes will be announced in advance, except for the occasional “pop quiz,” and will be given regularly throughout the week. Homework and quizzes are both vital to your success in this class.

Major Grades (50%):

Tests

Tests will be announced well in advance and will usually be given every other week. The test average is the other 50% of your nine weeks grade.

Re-Test Procedure:

The retest policy will be a progressive type test. Each test in the term will have current material and a smaller portion of the test will be material from the previous unit. If a student scores higher on the current test than he/she scored on the previous test, the test score will be recorded as the grade for both tests.

Projects

Projects will be given throughout the year. They will be given a due date. Any project not turned in on the scheduled due date will be subject to the following late policy:

1 day late: -15 points (max 85)

2 days late: -10 points (max 75)

3 days late: -5 points (max 70)

4 days late: -5 points (max 65)

5 days late: -5 points (max 60)

More than 5 days late: No work will be accepted (max 0)

Tutorials

The Algebra 1 Team has a tutorial schedule that can be found on the website, it is also posted in each Algebra classroom. Individual teachers will also have their own tutorial schedule. Please see your teacher if you would like to come at a specific time (before or after school) for extra help. Help is always available when it is needed!

Make-ups

Homework should be made up immediately upon returning to class. Tests and quizzes will be made up within the same number of days as the student was gone. It is also the responsibility of the student to check with the teacher concerning assignments that were given when the student was absent. You may want to e-mail the teacher or check the website to get caught up from home.

Parent/Student and Teacher Communication

Please feel free to contact your teacher either by e-mail (recommended) or phone if you have any questions or concerns. A personal meeting may also be scheduled during the conference period or before/after school.

DON’T BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS! LET’S HAVE A GREAT YEAR!!
