A. OVERALL PURPOSE/SUMMARY

Under general supervision, perform skilled work in the repair and maintenance of automobiles, trucks and other District owned motorized equipment.

B. SCOPE OF DEPARTMENT

The District Vehicle Maintenance Department advises staff and department personnel on issues of motorized equipment safety, regulations, utilization, replacement and acquisition. The department is also responsible for the preventive maintenance and repair of all District motor equipment.

Interface with the consultants, vendors

D. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Service automobiles, trucks, and other District owned motorized equipment, including inspections, diagnostics, fabrications, repairs, and parts replacements.

2. Operate automotive test equipment.

3. Lubricate equipment.

4. Make field repair calls.

5. Make out daily repair reports.

6. Maintain records.

7. Observe safe work practices and insure that work does not endanger others.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

E. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Minimum Requirements

1. Graduation from high school, including or supplemented by training in automotive repair work, and three years of automotive diagnostic and repair experience. Additional related education maybe substituted for work experience.

2. Good knowledge of the standard methods, materials, tools and equipment of automotive and motorized equipment mechanical trade.

3. Good knowledge of the operating principles and mechanics of internal combustion engines and diesel driven equipment and of mechanical repair methods applicable to trucks and motorized equipment.

4. Good knowledge of the occupational hazards and the proper safety precautions of the trade.

5. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions quickly and accurately.

6. Ability to maintain records and prepare simple reports.

7. Ability to interpret technical manuals, drawings, specifications, and schematics.

8. Skill in locating and repairing defects in motorized equipment.

9. Skill in the use and care of the hand and machine tools employed in motorized repair work.

10. Vehicle mechanic will provide and maintain his/her basic tool inventory of standard tools. The minimum tool requirements list may be obtained from the Vehicle Maintenance Manager. Pneumatic, electric and special-purpose tools are provided by the District and shall remain property of the District.

F. LICENSE, CERTIFICATION AND/OR PERMIT

Minimum Requirements

1. Possession of a valid CDL (Commercial Drivers License) issued by the State of Ohio, class "A" with tank endorsement "N" and no air brake restriction, either at the time of appointment to the position or prior to the completion of the probationary period.

2. Driving record that is acceptable to District’s insurance carrier.
