Job Title: KTP Research Associate - Project Engineer in Nano Composites

Theme: Introduction of Graphene Nano Platelets into Thermoset and Thermoplastic resins

Salary: £26,000 - £35,000 per annum depending on skills, qualifications and experience. An excellent individual training package is also available.

Faculty/Group: Faculty of Engineering – Composites Research Group – Haydale Composite Solutions Ltd

Contract: This full-time (37.5 hours per week) post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of 30 months.

Location: Haydale Composite Solutions Ltd, Loughborough and The University of Nottingham

1. Job purpose:

To introduce Graphene Nano Platelets into Thermoset and Thermoplastic resins for the enhancement of mechanical properties for use in Composite applications.

2. Duties and responsibilities:

• Develop Design of Experiments methodology

• Manufacture resin coupon samples

• Characterisation of nanoscale raw materials using SEM/TEM etc.

• Test resin coupon samples

• State of cure analysis using DMA/DSC etc.

• Report on resin testing and development of Design of Experiments plan

• Manufacture composite coupon samples by vacuum infusion

• Test composite coupon samples

• Report and conclusions on composites testing

• Design demonstrator component with the aid of CAD

• Manufacture and test demonstrator component

3. Special Conditions:

Whilst the position will be based at Haydale Composite Solutions Ltd in Loughborough, the Associate must be prepared to travel within the UK and will be expected to spend some time working at Haydale Graphene in Wales and at the University of Nottingham.
