Who should attend?

This course is designed for bilingual individuals who are fluent in English and another language who have completed the pre-requisite 16-hour Basic Training for Interpreters in Health Care.

Why attend?

This course is the second of three training sessions to fulfill the 40-our training requirement by numerous health care systems as well as national medical interpreter certification testing.

How do I prepare?

Upon receiving your registration for this course, registrants will receive interpretation and glossary preparation materials.

Sight translation

◆ Tips and practical exercises for interpreting written text into another language and from another language into English (tested on national oral exam)

Ethics & standards of practice

◆ Ethical dilemmas encountered in everyday interpretation practice

(tested on national written exam)

Medical terminology

◆ Converting medical terminology from passive to active vocabulary

(tested on national written exam)

Memory strategies

1. Review six techniques to assist with accurate and complete consecutive interpretation

This course is the second training to complete 40 hours required for national certification and by numerous health care systems.

Participants will polish their medical interpretation skills as well as acquire new skills in order to take their performance to a higher level.

The medical terminology training unit and medical interpreter ethics and standards of practice unit will assist those interpreters wishing to prepare for national written exams. The sight translation and consecutive interpretation units will prepare interpreters for national oral certification exams.
