EYFS Home Learning Ideas Summer Term Week 8 Wb 15.6.20This week we will be learning to settle into our new school routines, classrooms and a slightly different way of learning. For those learning at home there are some valuable lessons here to be reminded of, too, including good hygiene and a focus on mental well-being.Super Soap Help to teach the children in the story when they should wash their hands and why. you could do:See the Super Soap activities on Twinkl.Learn the song.Draw or write to explain why we need to wash our hands. There are a number of good apps, but most are subscription (Headspace kids section is very good and we use this in school). Jaime from Cosmic Kids Yoga also has some FREE meditation scripts such as this balloon activity; (This is quite long at 7 minutes, but with practise meditation becomes easier)ReadingRegister with the Oxford Owl website for free to access their library of e-reading books. There are lots to choose from, you can pick the right level for your child – we know that many of you have already got going with this. of our focus texts for the week is ‘Everybody Worries’ by Jon Burgerman. It is available on Oxford Owl or for free on Amazon for Kindle. Discussion: P12-13- What makes you worried? Is that the same for everyone? What is a worry that someone else has?P18-19- What things can you spot in the picture that have changed?P24-25- What have you done to show your feelings? How could you share your feelings?PhonicsIt’s still really important (especially if you’ve finished your blending strips) to keep practising the Phase 3 vowel sounds regularly. If your child is confident with all the Phase 3 sounds, then you can practice them in words. Attached you should find the plan which will be followed in class, called ‘Phonics phase 4 week 4’, for which most of the activities can be done at home, using the websites: . Also attached is a set of pictures with phoneme frames to write the words in. Click on the ‘Early Years’ section and you’ll find an activity for each day of the week. There are some super ideas for 3D shapes, repeating patterns, counting and ordering numbers. We would love to see some photos on Tapestry of your 3D castle constructions.Outdoor LearningWe are hopeful that the weather will be a bit better in the weeks to come, and we will be taking every opportunity in school to get the children outside. We will read stories and practise phonics and maths skills outside, but more than anything we will be giving the children time to play outdoors. With outdoor learning we follow the children’s interests and then take them on their next steps in learning. If you have a pile of sticks, children will use their imagination and perhaps start sword fighting, making magic spells, building, scraping marks in the mud, the list goes on. To take this learning on, we look for opportunities to develop one of the 3 Ms; Making conversation, Maths, Mark-making.Examples;Making ConversationMathsMark-makingMake a funny magic spell to put on someone with your stick wand. What spooky words can you use? How could you make it rhyme?Which stick would make the longest sword? What size of sword would everyone in the family need? Order the swords by length.Scrape some dinosaur footprints in the mud. Try making a trail of dinosaur prints.Pick a thin pointy stick and go on a nature walk. Collect natural things you find on the walk and attach them to the stick (leaves, feathers, pine cones…). Using the stick and objects, retell the story of your walk. What shapes and patterns can you make on the ground using an assortment of sticks? What letters can you write in the mud? Can you write your name? Could you write a sign for your stick den?Just a couple of ideas there, and that’s just thinking about a pile of sticks! Imagine what else we could do, just use the outdoors as the stimulus for learning!Keep on posting photos and videos onto Tapestry. We love seeing what you’ve been up to and at the end of the year, you’ll be able to download the whole years learning journey for your child to keep and look back at how cute they were and how much they learned! ................
