Factory Deployment Guide 3

Intel? OptaneTM Memory

1

Overview

This Factory Deployment Guide provides guidance on the build process that enables system manufacturers to ship fully-configured and optimally-accelerated systems to their end users. This improves the customers' "out-of-box" experience because the cache regions are populated with data before being shipped from the factory.

This deployment guide is divided into two sections:

Preparing the `Gold' OS Image ? This section describes the process to create an image of the software installed on a normal build of a device. Once created and stored, this image can be embedded into the memory media of the customer ordered device.

Implementing the Factory-Enabled System Build -- Upon completing the building of the `ReferencePC', the Manufacturer can extract and store an image of the install to be accessible from the Manufacturer's factory floor. At the proper time, the Manufacturer can download this image onto the `CustomerPC'. This download will apply the image to the storage media on the CustomerPC.

Preparing the `Gold' OS Image

The Manufacturer does their normal build process of installing the Windows* OS and any applications required to create the PC (`ReferencePC'). The configuration of the ReferencePC represents the customer ordered PC that will go through the factory assembly process (`Customer PC').

Using this suggested factory build process, the Manufacturer creates a reference image of the software (`gold') to be included in a CustomerPC. With this `gold' image, the Manufacturer can enable system acceleration with Intel? OptaneTM memory before shipment of the CustomerPC to the ordering customer. Figure 1 shows the typical build flow of the ReferencePC.

Windows Installation Media Update

1. Download the latest Intel? Rapid Storage Technology (Intel? RST) base SW package (version 15.5 or later driver)

2. Obtain the desired Windows 10 64-bit distribution media from Microsoft*.

3. Follow the Microsoft process to add the desired drivers to an image file (.wim). Add the Intel? RST driver to the following image files in the Windows 10 distribution media:

Boot.wim Install.wim WinRE.wim
