Marking:

A unit will consist of a set of outcomes. These outcomes will be identified at the start of the unit. Lessons and practice will be centered around these outcomes.

Tests>>We will wrap up each unit with a test. Smaller quizzes may be given within a unit. You will be given a minimum of two days notice for tests. You are responsible for bringing all of the necessary materials to write a test. Assignments>> These will include worksheets, posters, surveys, individual and group projects, study notes etc.

Test and Assignment marks will be combined to form term marks, which will be reported in your report card.

Class work and Homework>> Class work and homework completion is vital to your success in Grade 7 Math. Our math will flow from group introduction to group instruction and discussion to group practice to smaller group practice to independent practice. It is very important that you make an effort to complete independent practice. It is required in order to show mastery of a skill.

Absences:

It is the responsibility of the student to make up work missed due to absences. Should you be absent on the day of a test or on the day that an assignment is due, you will be expected to write the test or turn in the assignment on the following day.

Provincial Assessment:

In January, all grade 7 students in Manitoba will complete a provincial assessment. This assessment will deal with skill level within 5 competencies: Mental Math, Patterns, Ordering Decimals, Ordering Fractions, and Representing Numbers. This assessment will not be included in your grade, but will be reported to Mr. Martin, Park West School Division, your parents, and the provincial government.

Interactive components:

We will be using Xtra Math and also piloting a program called Dreambox this year. These are online programs that are accessible in the classroom, the lab, and online at home.

We will also have updates, reminders, and other learning tools available on Mrs. Shwaluk’s webpage. You can access this website through the link on the school webpage.

Outcomes:

On the reverse, you will find a list of outcomes from the Grade 7 Math Curriculum.
