NARRATIVE EXAMPLESThe illustrative examples listed under each criterion are intended to help the nominator think about the nominee’s work in these areas.Grow a diverse, high-performing workforce that reflects all segments of our society and values all aspects of our human diversity.Examples:Utilize staffing flexibilities and special hiring authorities (e.g., Veterans, Schedule A for individuals with disabilities, student internships and fellowships).Partner with the Airman and Family Readiness Center, Army Community Services, Fleet and Family Support Center, Career Assistance Branch or Career Resource Management Center, Spouse Employment Assistance Program, or Work-Life Transition and Relocation Managers to identify individuals eligible for VA employment utilizing military spouse hiring authorities.Develop strategic partnerships with affinity organizations, professional associations and educational institutions focused on groups with historically low representation.Meet and/or exceed all the established EEOC affirmative employment goals for persons with disabilities and persons with targeted disabilities, ensuring advancement opportunities.Implement diversity-focused internship and fellowship programs, including the Workforce Recruitment Program, National Diversity Internship Program and Career Pathways Programs.Ensure that employment outreach programs target disabled, female, minority and multigenerational Veterans and spouses of Veterans.Cultivate an inclusive work environment and create an engaged organization that leverages diversity and empowers all contributors.Examples:Develop workforce succession plans addressing barriers to equal employment opportunity (EEO) and diversity; analyze attrition by race, ethnicity and gender.Aggressively market broad as well as targeted outreach for leadership development and mentoring programs.Employ Civility, Respect, and Engagement in the Workplace (CREW) or other initiatives in organizations experiencing high workplace conflict/per capita complaints or barriers to inclusion. Support special emphasis programs, employee affinity and resource groups, and expand these groups to represent new, emerging aspects of diversity.Implement work/life flexibilities to improve productivity.Facilitate outstanding, responsive public service through principled leadership, shared accountability and educated stakeholders.Examples:Deliver cultural competency, diversity and inclusion, EEO and conflict management training to the workforce.Monitor customer service surveys and indicators and take action to attain desired outcomes.Target outreach to indigenous/rural populations that historically do not avail themselves of VA services.Incorporate diversity and inclusion content in branding and communication strategies. ................
