Cleaning 101 Orientation

Review Orientation and Training Plan (2 Minutes) Provide new employee with a copy of the Orientation Checklist and the Training Checklist. Be sure to highlight the things we'll be doing day by day during their training. We want to make sure they have a clear understanding of the training, and what is expected of them throughout the training process.

Complete New Hire Packet (15 - 20 Minutes) Have the employee complete all necessary new hire paperwork contained in the new hire packet according to the New Hire Checklist. Once completed, fax necessary paperwork to have Employee Drug Screen Scheduled.

Office Tour and Equipment Survey (5 Minutes) Show the employee around the office and explain the different areas of the office:

? Bathroom ? Kitchen Area ? Solution Area ? Kit Stalls ? Laundry Area ? Offices

This is also an opportunity for us to give an overview of what is included in an Equipment Set, as well as a Cloth Set. The Equipment and Products Module in Cleaning 101 will cover the specifics of each of the pieces of the kit, but we want to show the items that make up the kit and give an overview of each piece:

? Vacuums (Upright & Porta-vac) ? Product Totes (Solution bottles, brushes, chizzler, etc) ? Step Stool ? Sponges ? Schmop ? Wool Duster ? Cloth Set

Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and How to Read Them (5 -10 Minutes) Show the new employee the MSDS binder and explain to them the contents and the safety issues of each of the solutions. Also show them the bottle labels that contain the MSDS information. Our goal is to provide them information about the contents of the products and the proper way to help handle them.

Discuss Team Books, Service Reports, and Daily Schedule (10 Minutes) Demonstrate to the employee the team book and how it is organized. Emphasize the importance of storing the keys and any payments received in the team pouch.

Explain to the employee the typical schedule for the day, including how lunches and breaks are handled. We want to be sure to explain the importance of completing the schedule, but also to use their downtime wisely. Breaks and lunches are encouraged, but should be kept to a reasonable level. Show and explain to the employee a sample Service Record. Highlight the important information areas including:

? Customer Information ? Room Content ? Directions ? Payment Information ? Access to the Home ? Team & Driver Information

Also be sure to explain the importance of making notes on the Service Record of anything performed or not performed on the Service Record, as well as any information given to us by the customer.

Issue and Review Employee Policy Manual (30 Minutes) Provide the employee a copy of the Policy Manual, and review important areas of the Policy Manual. This includes, but not limited to, our Mission and Quality Statements, our Zero Tolerance Policy, Breakage/Incident Procedures, Available Benefits, Absence Policy, Holiday Policy, and Uniform Policy. Also make sure they sign and turn in the Acknowledgement Letter.

Issue Technical Training Manual (2 Minutes) Provide the employee a copy of the Technical Training Manual and highlight the different areas of the Technical Training Manual. Explain to them that this is an accompaniment to the Cleaning 101 Materials and is just as important as the provided training.

Personnel Management (10 Minutes) Provide the new employee with their Responsibility Statement and explain to them what our expectations are of them. We also want to introduce our Appraisal Form as well as our Training Evaluation Worksheet.

Issue Uniform Shirts (2 Minutes) Provide the employee with 3 Merry Maids shirts. If we don't have the appropriate number or size onhand, these can be ordered from the resource center.

Create Training Evaluation Worksheet (1 Minute) This series of worksheets are needed to track the progress of the New Employee's Training Program. Be sure to complete with New Employee's Name, Date, Office, and Activity Week on the Day 1 Worksheet. This information will be carried through the rest of the document.

Complete Day 1 Training (30 Minutes) Present, according to the Training Plan, all the content for Day 1 Training. This includes Introduction to Merry Maids Cleaning, Products and Equipment, Introduction to Customer Service, etc. This is to prepare them for Day 2 Training where we begin to discuss the cleaning steps for Cleaning 101.
