ITALIAN CITIZENSHIP THROUGH MARRIAGE You can apply at the Consulate in Miami only if:your Italian spouse is registered with us in AIRE (Registry of the Italian nationals living abroad); andyou both are resident within the jurisdiction of this Consulate (Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Puerto Rico, American Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islands, Caymans, The Dutch Islands of St. Maarten, St. Eustatius and Saba, Turks and Caicos, Bahamas).General requirements:the marriage must be already registered at the Comune in Italy;the couple must be married for a minimum of three years, but the time is reduced by half if the couple has children (including adopted children);the marriage must be intact, because in case of interruption due to separation, divorce, annulment, or death the naturalization shall be forfeit.IF YOU ARE CONCERNED THAT ANY OF THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURES MAY AFFECT YOUR ACTUAL CITIZENSHIP, YOU MUST CONTACT THE APPROPRIATE AUTHORITIES OF YOUR COUNTRY.By law there are two different procedures:Procedure 1:for women married to an Italian citizen before April 27, 1983.Procedure 2:for men married to an Italian citizen anytime ;and for women married to an Italian citizen after April 27, 1983.PROCEDURE 1Schedule an appointment by contacting the Citizenship Office at cittadinanza.miami@esteri.it.Application feeAs of July 8th, 2014, the application for the recognition of the Italian citizenship through marriage has Consular fee of € 300 payable in US dollars. The fee is due on the day of the appointment and can be paid only by money order, certified check or cashier’s check in US Dollars, made out to the Italian Consulate General in Miami. Cash will not be accepted.The application fee is NON REFUNDABLE, regardless of the outcome of the petition. Both the certificate and its translation must carry the Apostille or be legalized as per Italian requirements (refer to instructions by the Italian Consular Office in the country where the certificate was issued);On the day of the appointment you and your husband will be asked to sign an affidavit of no divorce or separation.PROCEDURE 2No appointment is required. Since August 1, 2015, the application must be submitted online. The applicant must register with the Ministry of the Interior at and upload in his/her individual account all the required documentation.Application feeFor the procedure a fee of 250 Euro is due to the Ministry of Interior in Rome and it is payable by international wire transfer. Both the record and its translation must carry the Apostille or be legalized as per Italian requirements (refer to instructions by the Italian Consular Office in the country where the certificate was issued);Proof of payment of the 250 Euros fee to the Ministry of Interior.The Consulate will process the applications in the order in which they were received on the portal of the Ministry of Interior and then will contact the applicant to finalize the application.On October 5, 2018 the Italian Ministry of Interior established the new term for application’s processing in four years from the date of submission. Requests on the processing status will not be answered before the expiration of said term. ................
