Position Description

Title: Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Regional Coordinator - Central Region (Serving the Counties of: Oceana, Newaygo, Mecosta, Isabella, Midland, Bay, Muskegon, Montcalm, Gratiot, Saginaw, Tuscola, Huron, Sanilac, Lapeer, Genesee, Shiawassee, Ingham, Clinton, Ionia, Kent, Ottawa)

Purpose: The EMS Regional Coordinator will work within his/her assigned region to promote compliance with Michigan statute and rules related to EMS functions. This assignment will include, but is not limited to, EMS agency inspections, EMS vehicle inspections, EMS education program site visits and document review, review of EMS continuing education documents, communications equipment testing and inspections, and serving as a National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians psychomotor exam coordinator as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Correspond and interact with MDHHS EMS and Trauma Division staff regarding assigned tasks;

• Complete time-sensitive reports and review of documents as assigned;

• Schedule EMS agency and vehicle inspections with designated agency personnel;

• Schedule EMS education program site visits including review of program documentation;

• Communicate with EMS Instructor/Coordinators regarding lesson plan reviews;

• Attend EMS continuing education sessions as assigned;

• Maintain and manage databases, office files, lists, and other information;

• Maintain positive, strong, credible, professional and interpersonal relationships;

• Complete all assignments in accordance with established deadlines;

• Other activities, as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements:

Education: Possession of a high school diploma. Maintenance of Michigan EMS Paramedic and Paramedic-Instructor/Coordinator licensures throughout employment

Experience: A minimum of five years of employment with a Michigan life support agency as a licensed Paramedic. A minimum of three years of experience as a Michigan Paramedic- Instructor/Coordinator conducting EMS continuing or initial education.

Important Skills and Characteristics: Strong organizational, oral and written communication skills and computer skills required. Self-directed, able to set priorities and attend to multiple tasks. Must be comfortable functioning in a team environment, as well as working independently. Must present a professional demeanor at all times. Business casual attire is required.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements: Work assignments are performed within a home office environment, as well as at life support agencies, and educational and healthcare facilities. Some tasks may include assignments on nights and weekends and include overnight travel. Dependable transportation and a valid vehicle operator’s license are required. Physical requirements consistent with a standard office environment.

Impact on Projects, Services, and Operations

Completion of tasks assigned to this position are time-specific. The person in this position will work cooperatively with the MDHHS EMS and Trauma Division staff, with primary collaboration being with the agency/vehicle licensure and education coordinator staff members. The best interests of the department will be represented at all times.
