Topic: Golf Cart Not A Powered Industrial Truck

Question: What are the rules, if any, on golf cart safety in a factory where lifts and overhead drains and people are present?

Answer: A golf cart does not fit the description of a fork lift ("Powered industrial truck" or "truck" means a mobile, power driven vehicle used to carry, push,

pull, lift, stack, or tier material), so those rules do not apply.  We assume the golf cart is used for the transportation of people and not equipment.

However, with any piece of equipment that is brought into the workplace, MIOSHA requires that the operator be trained in the operating procedures, safeguards, and

the hazards of that equipment.
