KennerBGHS vs. North Hardin- The Purples and Trojans have met on four previous occasions, all during Coach Wallace’s tenure. BGHS is 4-0, outscoring North Hardin, 115-34 in those games. The two teams last met in 2008 with the Purples winning, 28-7. BGHS enters the game with a 27-game win streak, coming off a 15-0, Class 5A State Championship season. Rafferty’s Bowl- Schedule- 5:00 PM Clarksville Northeast vs. Central Hardin, 8:00 BGHS vs. North Hardin. BGHS has won 10 consecutive Rafferty’s Bowl appearances and 15 straight games at WKU.Male Scrimmage- BGHS won the varsity portion of the scrimmage, 34-13. Male won the JV scrimamge 14-0. JR QB Beau Buchanon was 19-26-0, 251 yards, 4 touchdowns to lead the Purples. JR WR Harrison Riggs, who will be sidelined indefinitely with an injury, caught six passes for 124 yards and a touchdown. SR WR Nash Hightower, SR WR Austin Brown, and FR WR Dez Wilson all caught touchdown passes from Buchanon. Wilson is the brother of Deangelo Wilson, an All-State WR from the 2016 Class 5A State Champions. SO Vito Tisdale scored on an 87-yard kickoff return, rushed 6 times for 55 yards, and caught four passes for 30 yards. The BGHS defense held Male to 157 yards during the varsity portion of the scrimmage. 2016 Recap 2016 saw BGHS win its fifth championship in the last six seasons and complete sixth undefeated, untied season. The 2016 group became the second-leading scoring team in Purples history, scoring 727 points. BGHS also set a state championship game record by scoring 70 points in their 70-22 win over Pulaski Co. Jamale Carothers (Navy) became BGHS’s career leading scoring and was the second Purple ever to claim the awards of Mr. Football and Gatorade Player of the Year in Kentucky. Carothers was an All-State performer and joined by Chazz Tooley, Dalan Cofer, Justice Dingle, and Deangelo Wilson on All-State Teams. QB Clark Payne set school records for TD passes in a season and career completion percentage. Returning Starters Offense- SR WR Ziyon Kenner, SR OL Matthew McCathron, JR OL Sam Vitale. Defense- SR LB Justice Dingle, SR LB J’son Beason, SR OLB Devan Jackson, JR S Davis TomblinsonBGHS Football- BGHS Football began play in 1922. Since that time, the Purples have amassed a record of 683-331-35, which places them eighth in all-time wins in Kentucky.. The Purples are tied for 9th in state championships (6), are among only 12 schools in state history that have won three consecutive championships, and their 48-game win streak (2011-14) is the second longest in state history. Since 2011,, BGHS is 84-3 (.966). In the 26 seasons since 1990, BGHS and Highlands are the only two Kentucky schools to win more than 85% of their games. The Purples are 308-49 (.862) during that period. KHSAA Team RecordsJV/Freshman Football- JV- Monday, home against Brentwood Academy, 6:00 PM.. The BGHS FR will open their season on August 24 at Portland, Tn.Coach Wallace: Kevin Wallace is tied for the 12th spot on the career KHSAA football wins list. Currently, only nine coaches have secured 300 career KHSAA wins. Tom Larkey (Perry Co. Central) and Wallace have a chance to join that group by season’s end. Wallace is 289-99 (.745) in his career, including a 239-38 (.863) mark at BGHS. Wallace is tied for 10th in KHSAA state championship appearances (8) and and tied for 7th in state championships won (5). Wallace is the only coach in state history that have been a part of three separate winning streaks of over 25 games . KHSAA Coaching Wins LeadersRankings: Class 5A pre-season rankings by the Courier-Journal, Herald-Leader, and Bluegrass Preps have all placed BGHS as the top-ranked team in its class.
