Purpose:

To increase knowledge of issues surrounding pregnancy that can be discussed with clients within the Maternal Infant Health Program in Michigan

Objectives:

1. Discuss the componets of optimizing a woman’s health between pregnancies

2. Identify at least 2 of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommendations regarding interconception care

3. Describe the factors of stress related to women’s health issues

4. Explain how a community can impact the fight on women’s depression

5. Define maternal trauma

6. Discuss how maternal trauma impacts children

7. Explain how attachment can be resolved after a traumatic event

8. Describe the impact that domestic abuse has on the family environment

9. Discuss the tools to assess the severity of domestic abuse

10. Describe the tools to use to make a safety plan

11. Discuss methods to healthy outcomes for pregnant women who are diabetic or become diabetic during pregnancy

12. Discuss the relationship of asthma to pregnancy and pregnancy to asthma

13. Explain at least 2 management and/or educational strategies for asthma and pregnancy issues

14. Discuss the current pregnancy-related mortality racial disparities

15. Define PPCM and its management
