XenDesktop 7

The administrator should install Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager (MSCVMM) on host machine prior to installing XenDesktop 7. This install will save time and avoid having to stop during the studio configuration with connections. The following steps should be followed in the event an Citrix Admin prefers to leverage Machine Creation Services (MCS) rather than utilizing our Citrix Provisioning Services (PVS).

Please note: During the installation of Studio the administrator will have to configure connection host type. If you are installing on Windows Server 2012 with Hyper-V, MSCVMM will be one of the options and if not configured beforehand you will need to cancel or pause XenDesktop 7 install until MSCVMM is completed.

1. Creating Service Account for MSCVMM

1. Open Active Directory Users and Computers on your domain controller. 2. Create a user account in the domain. (this was called scvmm in Joey's doc) 3. Add the user to the following groups:

Domain Users Hyper-V Administrators groups.

2. Configure the Authorization Store

1. Add the Authorization Manager snap-in from the Microsoft Management Console.

Open the Microsoft Management Console. Click File > Add/Remove Snap-in. Select Authorization Manager and click Add. Click OK. 2. Open the Authorization Store for Hyper-V. Right-click the Authorization manager snap-in and select Open Authorization Store. Select XML file and browse to the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Hyper-V\InitialStore.xml file. Click OK. 3. Add the Domain Admins role to the authorization store role assignements. Expand Authorization Manager > InitialStore.xml > Hyper-v services > Role Assignments. Right-click Administrator and select Assign Users and Groups > From Windows and Active Directory. Select Domain Admins then click OK.

3. Setup the Assessment and Deployment Kit

1. Install the ADK. Download link: Specify the install location. Select the participation option for the Customer Experience

Improvement Program. Respond to the License Agreement. Select the features to install.

4. Setup the SQL Command Line Utilities

1. Install the Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Feature Pack Download link:

Respond to the License Agreement. Click Install.

5. Setup the SCVMM

1. Start the SCVMM installer. Click Install. Select VMM management server and click Next. Complete the Product registration information. Respond to the License Agreement and click Next. Select the participation option for the Customer Experience

Improvement Program and click Next. Select the Microsoft Update option and click Next. Select the installation location and click Next. Complete the database configuration information. Provide the domain service account to be used and optionally the

distributed key management information. Specify the port configuration for the server. (can accept the default

settings) Configure the library share if needed. Review the installation summary, select Open the VMM console

when this wizard finishes and then click Install. (the VMM console opens for the next task)

6. Configure SCVMM on the XenDesktop Controller

1. Connect to the Hyper-V host. Specify the Hyper-V host. (if local, use localhost:8100) Specify the credentials to connect to the Hyper-V host. Click Connect.

2. Add a resource. Right-click All Hosts and select Add Hyper-V Hosts and Clusters. Select Windows Server computers in a trusted Active Directory

domain and click Next. Specify the account to be used to discover computers and install the

Hyper-V role. (use scvmm or the account created in the first task) Select the discovery scope for virtual machine hosts and specify any

Hyper-V servers you want to manage. Select the target resource. (the target resource must have the

Hyper-V role enabled) Specify a host group and virtual machine placement path settings. Review the resource settings then click Finish. (results: your host will

be listed under All Hosts)

7. Setup the SCVMM

1. Install SCVMM on the XenDesktop 7 controller. Run the SCVMM installer on the XenDesktop Controller. Click Install. Select VMM console and click Next. Respond to the Additional Software terms and click Next. Select the participation option for the Customer Experience

Improvement Program. Select the Microsoft Update option and click Next. Specify the installation location and click Next. Specify the administration console port and click Next. Review the installation summary, select Open the VMM console

when this wizard finishes and then click Install. (the VMM console opens for the next task)

8. Configure SCVMM on the XenDesktop Controller

1. Connect to the Hyper-V host. Specify the Hyper-V host. Specify the credentials to connect to the Hyper-V host. Click Connect.

2. Change the server hostname to the server where SCVMM management was installed. 3. Reboot the XenDesktop Controller.

9. Configure Citrix Studio on the XenDesktop Controller

1. Launch Citrix Studio. 2. Click Get started! Create a Site. 3. Select Configure the Site and start delivering applications and desktops to users, provide a name for the site and then click Next. 4. Specify the SQL server and click Next. 5. Specify the licensing options and click Next. (using 30-day trial here) 6. Specify the connection settings and click Next.

Host type (select MSCVMM) Address (address of the SCVMM host) Username (domain admin credentials) Password Connection name (HyperV) Machine creation service tool (Studio tools: MCS) 7. Specify the name of the Hyper-V host and cluster name and click Next. 8. Select the storage that XenDesktop 7 will use for Machine Creation Services and click Next. 9. Select the option for App-V publishing and click Next. (select No) 10. Click Finish. (result: you can now use Machine Creation Services with XD 7)
