Phil SorgenCorporate Vice President, Worldwide Partner Group, Microsoft Corp.063500As head of the Worldwide Partner Group, Phil Sorgen is responsible for Microsoft Corp.’s worldwide partner channel strategy for the company’s commercial products and cloud offerings. In this capacity, Sorgen leads a global sales and marketing team composed of 5,000 employees and Microsoft’s independently owned-and-operated partner companies, a channel that drives over 90 percent of Microsoft’s annual revenue. Sorgen leads the effort to activate Microsoft’s diverse partner ecosystem, which includes distributors, system integrators, value-added resellers, independent software vendors and Web application developers to Microsoft’s new cloud offerings.Before assuming his current role on Sept. 1, 2013, Sorgen led the Small and Midmarket Solutions and Partners business in the U.S. subsidiary for four years. In the role as corporate vice president, Sorgen was responsible for a team of sales, marketing and partner management professionals serving Microsoft’s business customers and vast partner community. Sorgen and his leadership team were responsible for ensuring that Microsoft and its ecosystem of partners delivered technology-based business solutions to meet the unique needs of Microsoft’s Corporate Account enterprise customers, and the 20 million small and midmarket businesses across the U.S. Sorgen also oversaw the Dynamics and Hosting businesses across all customer segments in the U.S.During his tenure, Sorgen was the executive sponsor for two important initiatives: software-as-a-service solutions and management excellence. As executive sponsor for Microsoft’s software-as-a-service solutions, Sorgen led the sales and marketing orchestration across Microsoft Office 365, CRM Online and Windows Intune cloud-based offerings. In this capacity, he also worked with field leaders to identify opportunities to improve product offerings, process and systems across the customer lifecycle and worked with Microsoft’s Business Groups to deliver world-class experiences for customers and partners. Sorgen was also the executive sponsor for Management Excellence within Microsoft U.S. In this role, he spearheaded the development of 16 geographically based communities of managers dedicated to improving the management capability of Microsoft’s U.S. Sales and Services organizations. Sorgen returned to the U.S. after serving for three and a half years as president of Microsoft Canada where he had responsibility for all elements of Microsoft’s Canadian business and for deepening Microsoft’s commitment to the Canadian market. Sorgen was responsible for Microsoft Canada’s annual CAN>WIN summit on innovation, productivity and Canada’s global competitiveness. In addition, Sorgen led Microsoft Canada’s Citizenship efforts and supported efforts that included working with children’s hospitals to launch Child Life Interactive Computers for Kids and online safety initiatives such as Take Back the Net education and awareness programs. Sorgen’s passion for the positive impact that technology can have on people and businesses in Canada earned him respect as a thought leader on economic prosperity and competitiveness through speaking and media engagements across the country.Before joining Microsoft Canada, Sorgen was general manager of Microsoft’s U.S. Enterprise Sales Operations Team where he was responsible for managing the alignment, synergy and integration of the Enterprise Sales, Enterprise Partner, Inside Sales, Commercial Licensing and Industry organizations. At that time, Sorgen was also a member of the U.S. Leadership Team responsible for sales, marketing, services and industry strategy across the U.S. Enterprise Business. Before that engagement, Sorgen was the general manager for the Gulf Coast District. Sorgen has a bachelor of arts and an MBA from the University of North Texas. ................
