To keep your students actively engaged in reading and thinking throughout the summer, the following reading selections have been suggested by the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade ELA teachers.

Incoming 5th grade: Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis The Cay by Theodore Taylor Incoming 6th grade: The Lost Garden by Laurence Yep Frightful Mountain by Jean Craighead George Incoming 7th grade: Now is the Time for Running by Michael Williams Burn My Heart by Beverly Naidoo The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton Incoming 8th grade: Inside Out and Back Again by Thanhha La Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand

Students may read one or all of the suggested readings. They will be given a writing assignment to assess their knowledge and understanding of the reading during the second week of school.

Students will be awarded extra credit points for their efforts.
