The recommended web browsers are: Mozilla, Firefox or Microsoft Internet Explorer, Java enabled. In addition, students must have access to Microsoft Office 2003 (or higher) and Windows XP (or higher). Adobe Acrobat Reader will be needed to read PDF files. Students must also have a basic level of computer skills and knowledge of computer operation. In addition, students should have a working knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint, Email and Internet web-browsing. There are assignments that require voice, audio. Speakers, microphone, and/or a headset are recommended.Description: NUR 420P Q Nursing Leadership and Management Practicum. (2 credits) (6 contact hours) (Prereq: NUR 301, NUR 305, and NUR 305L) (Coreq: NUR 420) Provide the student with the opportunity to observe nurses practicing in management roles in various health care agencies. Students will get practice experiences in managing costs and budgets, scheduling, quality improvement, and conflict management.Experiential Learning/Quality Enhancement Program Student Learning Outcomes:SLO 1: Students will demonstrate the knowledge and skills obtained through participation in experiential learning activities that are relevant/pertinent to their academic programs and/or career goals.SLO 2.1 Students will demonstrate a high level of comprehension and skill in connecting theory with practice which is correlated to their level of participation in experiential learning activities.Course Objectives: In this course, the students will have the opportunity to:1. Observe nurses practicing in management roles in a health care agency.2. Describe the roles and responsibilities of a leader and manager in a health care agency.3. Discuss strategies of the budgeting process including costs, staffing, scheduling, and strategic planning.4. Differentiate strategies of conflict management used by managers in a healthcare setting. 5. Examine the significance of quality improvement and safety in the healthcare setting.NUR 420P Leadership/Management Student Learning Outcomes: The student will be able to:1. Demonstrate understanding of leadership roles for quality healthcare outcomes.2. Assess how the characteristics, environment and culture of the health care agency influence the role of the professional nurse.3. This will be conveyed in a poster format.4.
