Introduction
You have been accepted on ‘The Apprentice Show’ run by Mr Slough in Small Heath School. Mr Slough needs an Apprentice to join him in achieving and improving the best for Small Heath School. If you win you will be given a ‘Life Time Achievement Award’ and will work closely with Mr Slough through out your School Career.
To show your excellence you will need to complete this Project to the best of your ability in order to become the Apprentice of Mr Slough.
1.1 I can identify the advantages of using IT for the task.
Task 1
Three English rooms in Upper School need a re-vamp. It would be a good idea to make a plan of this using the ‘Insert Shapes Menu’ in Microsoft Word.
A new setting would need to be created. Taking your role as a ‘Mini Architect’ you will need to look at the shapes menu below:
Task 2
You need to write an email to Miss Page about the new plans for the English department. Fill in the box below, saying what things you have to do before you email or post the letter:

Emailing is better because it’s faster and easier and it can get to the person quicker.

Why is Copy and Paste better than using a Pen and Paper?
Because copy and paste takes about one second and pen and paper take about 30 seconds and copy and paste is easier and you can copy complex pictures within a click of a button.

I found it easy when creating my plan because you don’t have to do anything difficult you just move some things around.

I asked my friend what do you think of my plan and they replied ‘ It is good because it’s easy for most pupils to see the whiteboard except the children at the back.
Task 3 – What will you do to improve
Looking at the feedback, how will you improve your Plan?
I will change my plan in future so all the children can see the whiteboard.

Small Heath School is very cautious about the use of IT for the safety and security of pupils.
You will need to fill in the blanks:
Small Heath School is a Technology College. The ICT Suites in Upper and Lower School are monitored by_CCTV________. This is to prevent any damage to the computer equipment. No student is allowed in ICT SUITES__________without a member of Staff. There are four main ICT Suites in Lower School; IT1, IT2, IT3 and IT4_______. In Upper school there are 3 main ICT Suites; GO5, B1, 117 as well as the Sixth Form IT Suite and DT4. There are four main ICT Teachers; Mr Lahel, Mr ___Mohr______, Mr Hussain and Mr Ali.
Pupils cannot change any___Computer Settings_____________, nor can they install any software. This is because untrusted software could contain _Virus_______and damage sensitive information on the school computers. An exe. File is an ___Excutable___________file which installs a program on a computer. Every pupil is given a username and password. Pupils should not give out their__Passwords__________.
Pupils can keep a different password for Upper, as it is another__Network_________. The Frog VLE and Student Email are set to the same password. Pupils can log in to Frog VLE at home and access GENDATA and their (009078, H Drive) as well as upload or download work/files.
The school does not allow pupils to go on inappropriate __Websites__________and has blocked certain websites such as Facebook, Youtube. The technicians and ICT Teachers keep a close on what pupils are accessing on computers using a program called___LANSchool__________. Teachers can block websites and take control of pupil’s computers using this program.

1. Apprentice- Someone who works for a skilled person for a fix period of time in order to learn his or her trade.
2. Open Source Software- means that the source code is freely availible and anyone can access it.
3. Closed Source Software-means that nobody can get hold of the source code this is the opposite of Open Source Code.
4. Excellence- means good and if something is excellence it is very good.

13. Install- In computing terms, this means to load some particular software so that it will run on the computer.
14. Bitmap- A Bitmap image is made up of a large number of dots or pixels which look like a picture as long as you are sitting a reasonable distance away from the screen. As soon as you zoom in close or enlarge the image, you will see individual pixels.
15. Vector- A vector graphic is not made up of pixels like a bitmap, but is made up of a set of instructions to the computer of how to draw the image from scratch.
16. Word processor- An electronic machine for word processing, consisting of a keyboard, a VDU incorporating a microprocessor, and a printer.
17. Network- In general a network is a word to describe a collection of parts joined together by links of some kind. A network is as basic as two computers being connected together. A network can be any combination of LANs or WANs.
18. Executable- A file containing a program that will run as soon as it is opened.
19. Virus- A computer virus is a piece of program code that, like a biological virus, makes copies of itself by attaching itself to another program. The virus can waste the host's resources, and sometimes destroy or change files.
20. Website- A Website is a set of web pages that belong to each other as one group. A Website is viewed using a browser.
21. Program- A program is a set of instructions that enables the computer hardware to perform a task.
22. Requirement- Something that is demanded or something needed or wanted.
23. Formatting- ( in computing) Arrange or put into a format
24. Align- to place (two objects) in a particular position in relation to each other.
25. Software- Software is short for computer software. Software includes all the computer applications and operating systems used with computers.
