|Work Experience |
|Three years in teaching, administration or counseling required. Three years successful counseling experience preferred. |
|PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY |
Facilitate the school-wide middle school advisement program, providing assistance to all middle school students, individually and in groups, regarding academic success and promotion to high school and coordinate guidance related programs and activities related to school completion, including counseling in academics, career and personal concerns in order to promote school completion, and consulting with appropriate adults.
|ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES |
1. Knowledge of programs.
a. Demonstrate a command of advisement and school counseling materials and programs.
2. Advisement program facilitation.
a. Facilitate, evaluate, and publicize a comprehensive school-wide student advisement program for all students in the middle school.
3. Drop-Out prevention counseling.
a. Identify students at-risk of dropping out (now or in the future) using student achievement data, perception data, demographic data, and process data.
b. Provide research-based effective interventions, continuously assess effectiveness and monitor student performance.
c. Meet with individual students and their parents/guardians of student at or above age 16 years or older dropping out to discuss consequences of choices and alternative opportunities for success; an advisement document is to be signed by all participants at this time.
d. Assure correct withdrawal coding in SASI and follow up if the student later requests a records transfer to another school.
e. Conduct individual and group counseling with at-risk students in areas of educational, career, or personal needs.
f. Development of a future graduation/achievement plan designed to meet post secondary goals.
g. Assist in implementing the school-based written guidance plan.
4. Professional growth.
a. Engage in professional learning and growth activities provided by Georgia DOE, the district, and the local school.
b. Apply new knowledge and skills acquired in planning, facilitating, and implementing an effective advisement and spiraling guidance program.
5. Professional responsibilities.
a. Focus on and be accountable for results.
b. Model correct use of oral and written language.
c. Demonstrate accurate and up-to-date knowledge of advisement and counseling content.
d. Interact in a professional manner with students, parents, and staff.
e. Work cooperatively with school administrators, other support personnel, teachers, parents, and students.
f. Facilitate home-school-community communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning, and sending written or electronic communications.
g. Maintain confidentiality of students and student records.
h. Intervene appropriately during crisis situations.
i. Is punctual, maintain regular attendance, and make necessary arrangements for absences.
j. Conduct guidance, counseling, and advisement activities at the times scheduled.
k. Maintain accurate, complete, and appropriate records and file reports promptly.
l. Attend and participate in faculty meetings, district level and other assigned meetings and activities.

|PHYSICAL DEMANDS |
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time. Employee is also required to talk, hear, stand and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or reach. Employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
