Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year at Elizabeth Blackwell Middle School 210. My name is Mrs. O’Leary and I will be teaching your child Math this year. In order for us to have a successful year, guidelines have been established. The following is a clear outline describing the expectations and requirements that are expected of your child in my class. This letter is intended for the students, parents and guardians so all parties are aware of my policies and expectations. Please read the following pages, both parent(s) and student must sign the contract and return to me by 9/17/11.

I will…
➢ Come to class with my binder/book, pen/pencil
➢ Respect the rules for academic integrity; Follow class rules and instructions
➢ Complete my homework assignments nightly and when I have difficulty, I will show work that proves I have tried to complete the assignment
➢ Make up the missing assignment if I am absent because it is my responsibility
➢ Sit in my assigned seat before the bell rings, unless otherwise instructed
➢ Begin working immediately on the class work assigned; Problem of the Day will be on the board
➢ Use appropriate language
➢ Respect my classmates, teacher, & school supplies
Class expectations
➢ Homework will be assigned every night (I advise parents to sign child’s homework every night)
➢ There may be surprise notebook checks that would be counted as test grades. I will be checking to see if student has all class notes, problem of the day, homework assignments, and any other assignments given.
➢ Tests will always be announced in class so student has time to review notes. Quizzes will be both announced and unannounced.
➢ A missed test/quiz may only be made up within one week of a students’ returned absence from school
➢ Behavior/Participation is another key ingredient to student’s final grade. Bad behavior will not be tolerated in class, and will require immediate attention and a discussion with parent(s). Participation in class is required! Student must participate in math class discussions with teacher. Students must work well with others in group projects, and must come to the board to answer math problems.
➢ Lateness and cutting is absolutely not acceptable behavior and will NOT be tolerated! Parent(s) will be notified immediately if a student has a lateness problem or is cutting. You are expected to work hard in this class, and reach many accomplishments with success!
Homework regulations
➢ First missed homework is a warning; third missed homework gets a phone call home!
➢ If homework is late, student will receive only partial credit
Homework passes may be given when…
➢ a student achieves an 85 or above on a test
➢ a student is exceptional in class
➢ gets 15 stamps for completing 15 homework’s
Grading criteria:
➢ Class work/teamwork/ projects 10%
➢ Homework 20 %
➢ Tests & quizzes 20 %
➢ Classroom behavior/ participation 40 %
➢ Writing 10%
Consequences if I don’t meet above expectations (not necessarily in order)
➢ Student/teacher meeting
➢ Phone call home
➢ Lunch tutorial for extra assistance
➢ Student/ teacher/ parent meeting
➢ Student/ teacher/ parent / administrator meeting
