Course Goal:

As students begin or continue their computer journey, they will acquire skills that will help them both in academic classes and in their extra curricular activities.  Students will learn and apply the basics of various programs and proper Internet research techniques in project based assignments.

Overview of Activities:

The Computer Applications class will start with an introduction to keyboarding using Mavis Beacon, discussing internet safety, ethics and current events. Computer Applications will reinforce creative writing, vocabulary, and cross-curriculum content through guided computer activities. Program based projects will be assigned and researched using the internet and other various programs. Each week will end with a Virtual Field Trip to further practice and reinforce the current curriculum. All assignments will be based on the Georgia Performance Standards and the National Educational Technology Standards.

Grading:

40% Formative: class work, discussions, quizzes, homework and daily assignments

60% Summative: Internet research, tests and projects

Progress reports will be sent out half way through each quarter.

Make-up Work

Students will be allowed to make-up work that was missed during class time. Since students work at different paces, we will have one to two days during the quarter set aside for make-up days. Working lunch or morning work sessions are also available for students.

Behavior Expectations

Students are expected to be respectful of equipment and materials, the classroom environment, their classmates and most certainly themselves. No food, drinks or gum are allowed in the computer classroom. All school rules apply.
