Textbook: Keyboarding Connections, Projects and Applications (class set)

Course Description:

This course expands students’ knowledge and awareness of the components of a computer system, keyboarding techniques, social and ethical implications of current technology, software applications, and the use of computers in solving real-life problems.

Course Objectives:

Students will:

• Describe the function(s) of specific parts of the personal computer system

• Practice proper care and usage of a personal computer system and peripherals

• Demonstrate simple troubleshooting techniques on computer hardware

• Demonstrate the use of a variety of input peripheral devices

• Increase keyboarding speed while maintaining accuracy and proper data entry techniques

• Discuss the social implications of current technology issues, privacy, information retrieval and copyrights

• Explain and practice the school’s “Acceptable Use Policy” with regard to technology use

• Use the Internet as a source of information to develop a meaningful discourse on how technology impacts society locally and globally

• Enter data into a prepared database

• Print a database report

• Input data into a prepared spreadsheet

• Use a word processor to produce documents in content areas

• Use a graphics program to create a personalized sign, greeting card, letterhead and calendar

• Integrate a graphic into a document, database and/or spreadsheet

• Use a computer to address a real-life problem-solving situation

Grading Criteria

Items contributing to the final quarter grade include but are not limited to the following:

Grading Standard

Class/Teamwork 30% 90% - 100% = A

Projects 40% 80% - 89% = B

Tests/Quizzes 20% 70% - 79% = C

Attendance/Participation 10% 60% - 69% = D

Quarter Grade (Total Possible Points) 100% < 59% = F

Classroom Expectations

Students must make the best use of their time in class in order to earn the most percentage points towards the final quarter grade. Appropriate behavior is expected of all students in the course of their participation in the planned learning activities.

2. Respect your classmates and teacher

3. Follow your teacher’s directions
