Course Syllabus and Classroom Procedures Murphey Middle School Reading InterventionMr. RandolphCourse Description:This course is intended to improve reading proficiency with explicit, direct one on one, and small group instruction in fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Different strategies for phonemic awareness and phonics will be used when needed by some of our struggling readers. A major portion of our class consists of I-ready. I-ready is a web based program that concentrates on building the foundation by strengthening the following domains: phonological awareness, phonics, high-frequency words, vocabulary, comprehension-literature, and comprehension- information text. Our goal for this class is to make sure every struggling reader improves their reading by at least one grade level.Daily Classroom Procedures BEFORE THE CLASS STARTS:Be seated in your assigned seat.Have all daily supplies out (composition book and pencil)Begin working on any class work given.ONCE DOORS CLOSES:Talking ceases.Log into I-readyBegin your online instruction.DURING THE CLASS PERIODRaise hand if you would like the teacher’s attention.Be productive.Remain in your seat at all times, unless given permission by the teacher.END OF CLASSLog off of the computer and wait until they are collected.Please remain seated until you are dismissed by the teacher. Raising your handRaising your hand indicates that you would like my attention. Please hold all questions until ALL instructions have been given out. RestroomOur time is limited and restroom time will be allowed only after 30 minutes of class have passed, during our work time not instructional time. Only 1 person should leave the classroom at a time, so if someone else is out of the classroom, please wait until they have returned to ask for permission. PreparednessStudents are expected to come to class prepared. A composition book( kept in class), and a pen or pencil. The most important item is the willingness to learn and to participate in all activities, it is crucial for success.REQUIRED MATERIALSAll students are expected to have these materials with them in class, daily.Pencil or penComposition book (kept in class)Ear buds (headsets for computer)Weighted Grades: Class Participation – 10%.
