Course Description: Keyboarding is a yearlong class with a focus on instruction during the first semester. This course is designed to help students develop speed and accuracy by learning the touch operation of alphanumeric/keyboard characters. Emphasis is places on the following: mastery of the keyboard with desirable keyboarding techniques; development of speed and accuracy; and proper care of the equipment. Keyboarding is foundation for developing entry-lever skills for business careers.

Computer Basis is an introductory course designed to teach 6th grade students how to productively use computer hardware, software and the internet. Students learn fundamental concepts and key application skills for using Microsoft Windows, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher as well as related social and ethical issues. Students will also learn about proper Internet Etiquette and possible ways to handle concerning situations that arise when on the internet. Class activities focus on real-world applications helping students gain technology skills necessary for coursework at Maple River Schools.

Course Objectives: ? Develop effective keyboarding technique ? Practice keyboarding speed and accuracy ? Develop file management skills ? Learn word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software skills ? Apply editing and correction skills ? Develop effective internet etiquette and searching techniques.

Class Expectations and Rules: 1. Be to classroom on time 2. Participate in class and complete all assignments 3. Respect the teacher(s) and other students 4. Food and drink are not allowed in the computer lab 5. Bring appropriate supplies needed for class each day. 6. Keep trappers and other classroom supplies in designated area 7. Be responsible for care of textbook, equipment, software and computer station assigned to you
