Cosmetology 1-36 Weeks (360 Hours) ???????Course DescriptionCosmetology 1 is an introductory course for students in the study of hair, skin, and nails and their related care. Students are grounding in theory with Milady Standard and Pivot Point Fundamentals. Students prepare to practice procedures in a clinical lab and classroom setting using manikins for manipulative skill practice. The first-year course emphasizes personal safety, professionalism, sanitations, and disinfection of equipment and facilities. Students develop skills in shampooing and condition hair, as well as styling and cutting hair. They are introduced to chemical texture, color services and develop skills in manicure and pedicure procedures. Hair Removal 4th nine weeks:Chapter 23 ?????FacialsChapter 24Facial Make-UpChapter 12 Basics of ChemistryChapter 21 Hair Coloring Review & Practical skills on all above material4th Nine-Week Focus: Computer Lab, Salon Labs- Facials, Make-Up, Hair ColorGrading:Nine-week grades include both class and lab performance.Summative 60%Summative work consists of: ?tests, evaluations, assessments, mastery of competency (including workplace readiness skills, professionalism, and safety), cumulative projects, and state exam benchmark assessmentsFormative 40%Formative work consists of: ?daily lab and classroom assignments, written work designed to enhance learning, reports, homework, quizzes, participation in the Skills USA club, organization (Professional Development Program-PDP), and development of professional competencies.Exams are averaged as 10% of the semester grade and consist of a written and practical exam.Attendance:Regular attendance is critical. Skills learned during class and labs are important to the success of the student. Absences result in a gap in the student’s knowledge and abilities. Documented hours are part of the program. A written excuse to the Cosmetology teacher is required if the student is absent. The hours for this program are enforced by the State of Virginia, therefore even excused absences, or other school activities do not count toward student hours, inclement weather is the only exception to the state regulations. There’s no way for the student to make-up hours. The student must be in attendance during their scheduled times to accumulate hours. Accumulated hours of 360- with 2 hours per day being possible for cosmetology 1. State required hours for completion of the program are set at 840. If required hours are not met by the end of the senior year, the student will not be able to take the state board exam. Without taking and passing the state board exam the student cannot obtain a cosmetology state license. Dress:The student will be expected to wear a lab jacket or apron when in the lab. Due to standing appropriate shoes should be worn. Students may keep extra shoes in their locker. During open lab clients come into the lab for services and students are expected to dress appropriately, and must be professional at all times.School Supplies: Zippered binder, pens, pencils, combination lock, loose leaf notebook paper, subject dividers, white-out, stylist apron or jacket. Club:Skills U.S.A. is our club organization connected with the cosmetology program. Our local chapter consist of officers, school activities, guest speakers and is in correlation with workplace readiness. Students are provided with equipment and styling tools and everything that is needed for instruction, but a student may bring a favorite item for lab, but names must be on all equipment or gels, shampoos, etc. If you bring your own products please see instructor before using product.
